Most of us know by now that there's a massive devaluation announced. It's pretty bad for partners' premium cabin travels not so bad for United only award travels. Surprisingly, Aus/NZ --> South Asia is down from 45k to 30k in business and 60k to 40k in first! Hello Dom & Caviar! Changes take effect 1st Feb 2014...Time to burn!!
Here is the new chart : http://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/news/United-Award-Chart-02-01-14.pdf

Fortunately I dont have many, about 28K in my name and just over 25K in my wifes. Was potentially planning to use for a trip to Rarotonga in July next year but thats not certain (using SQ points for the others in the family). But possibly now better to try and get our points balances up to 30K and take a trip to Myanmar or Bhutan.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It is good news for australian. from australia to south asia just 60K miles in business class. good deal.

Any other values that have actually gone down similar to this? This is great value at 60K return in J!

Either TG or SQ metal except 777-300/ER & A380 on SQ.
F is only available BKK-SYD

Thought some people may have been getting lucky on SQ a few times. (I'm not referring to when SQ did some switchovers of system and the availability opened up so suddenly).

I think UA MP have a mileage sale each year, but it is annually capped. Anyone know much about this (e.g. cost per mile during a sale and caps)?

Could result in some fairly inexpensive J or F trips to Asia. That said, UA is not as silly as US and actually separated out "Australia/New Zealand" and "Oceania" into separate zones (so no GUM tricks ;)).

It should be noted that the new charts now discriminate between if you fly on United Airlines or Star Alliance partners (the latter is more expensive).

The BoardingArea collective are up in arms on this one.

Wow. That is a major devaluation of the MP programme. At least the changes mean that it will cost less to get a J ticket from Australia to South Asia. However, there never seems to be any availability in J on SQ for the A380 or even B77W, which is really really annoying.

isn't that the rule with US airways dividend miles? This is UA, I've always seen availability on those aircraft on united.com

Business or First saver awards are always "sold out" on the A380 and B77W on SQ.

exactly
better that this thread just went away!
they can very easily change the chart!

They're not sold out. SQ just blocks premium cabin award space on the A380 and B77W to partner airlines. So, the only way you can redeem award tickets on SQ is by having miles in a SQ KF account (or by transferring them from your AMEX MR points).

I also can't help but think that there is a mistake. I've noticed that the miles required from South Asia to anywhere is exactly the same as Aust/NZ to anywhere. This wasn't the case before and doesn't seem quite right.

There is a current sale although not amazing. Save 25% when you purchase award miles
Cheapest way of purchasing UA miles is by purchasing them through Mileage Accelerator, which is an option you get after booking a paid ticket.

To do this, you will need to have a large credit limit on your CC since you'd need to purchase a full-fare Economy ticket from one city to another city. If you need a lot of miles then purchase a Frankfurt-Sydney ticket. From there, you will be given the option to purchase miles through Mileage Accelerator, which you will notice on your reservation online. Once you purchase the miles, the miles will post instantly into your account. From there, just cancel the paid reservation. Just make sure you don't do this often..

you can also buy accelerator on an award ticket even on other airlines
eg. thai award. as long as it shows on the UA website ( must get your number in the booking )

Yep, I bought some from my USDM award redemption. I suppose as long as you have UA record locator, you are fine..
