Understanding [Fare Buckets] Expert Flyer

QF flight

J/9 C/9 D/9 I/9 U/0Y/9 B/9 H/9 K/9 M/9 L/9 V/9 S/9 N/9 Q/9 O/9 G/0 X/0 E/0
any one can explain that above means ?

Thank you

Fare buckets,

Eg, J/C/D/I/U=Business
Y (and the others) = Eccon

If it says 9 it actually means 9 or more seats in that bucket. Each fare bucket has different conditions and different pricing attached.

In the above I can see there are still many cheap seats available (Q/N/O are cheap buckets), there are no business classic awards available, however there is quite a bit of business class availability including discount business.

You can get an idea here, they are changing soon

what is G/0 X/0 E/0

I bought class S

what chances i can do upgrade using points or free?

Thank you

Class S is normally upgradable, however that typically goes into U class of which there are no seats available at this stage.
That is not to say they won't release more getting closer to the date, but I wouldn't be holding your breath and I would be fully expecting to fly in Eccon.

Free, virtually not a chance, so far it is very light loads on the flight, free upgrades (or OpUp's) are only given when the Eccon cabin is oversold.

Have you put an upgrade request in? You never quite know.

This is the details as at post time for a flight I'm about to take:

J9 C8 D8 I0 W1 R0 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q8 G0 E9

I'm in W and have put in for a J upgrade..good chance?

I'm looking to set up an alert for SYD - NRT on SQ to monitor J and F award seat availability for June 8-10 next year.

It looks like EF only works point to point - not a "through" fare?

Trying to get up to speed with expertflyer.

Though my question would likely apply to the other seat availability tools as well. Checking FRA-SIN flights. Note there are no direct OW flights.

Comment: UL does not seem to show up with USA point of sale. Reply from EF states limit to 12 flight segment limit ?? :-| Or something to do with time selection.

UK point of sale does show the UL flights if a close in departure time is chosen. However, the fare availability values are not really very useful. I understand the numbers paired with fare codes. I understand that a fare code with a "C" means the class is closed (and unlikely to be re-opened). But the UL flight pair ALL show a fare code paired with "A" unless already paired with a "C". And a few flights with other airlines show specific fare codes paired with an "L". Part example "BA 909 J9 CL DC RC IC Y9..."

Can we have a short wiki at the top of this thread with an explanation of a typical seat availability return display (with the obscure codes)?

Thanks

Fred

I used to be able to search flights on EF as a free registered member - is there a trick I am missing or has it been enhanced?

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I have checked an upcoming flight on ExpertFlyer and I can see Business Class availability as 12 seats occupied, 9 seats blocked and 7 seats available on QF 71, an A330. I am hoping for a points upgrade and am Bronze currently.

Does that mean that there are currently 16 (9 + 7) empty seats or that 12 passengers have chosen their seat and 9 have booked but not chosen their seats, leaving 7 empty seats?

The QF website shows 7 empty seats, 2 bassinet seats and the remaining seats as unavailable. Does unavailable include allocated seats plus booked passengers who have yet to choose their seats?

QF shows occupied and blocked as unavailable - no differentiation.
EF splits them.
12 seats occupied means 12 people have selected seats (will have booked, may or may not be ticketed as yet), but these seats are currently "sold".
There is no correlation whatsoever between blocked / available seats and people who have bought tickets but not selected seats. Blocked just means QF won't let you select that seat at the moment. It could be a bassinet, reserved for higher status pax - or when a certain percentage of the seats are selected, QF will block all the rest to leave flexibility for check-in to assign the last few seats.

On EF, you need to look at what the fare buckets say as available for an indication of how many more seats QF is willing to sell. That is the best indicator of "available" seats that may be allowing potential for upgrades.

Note that the QF website now shows bassinet seats separately and does not allow them to be selected online, despite the fact that EF shows them as "available" after T-80.

Instead of starting a new thread, probably best to post here.

When searching QF, does it only show what Bronze/Silver see?

I'm a bronze so only see available seats on popular routes 297 days out, and can see some F/J availability to the US at around that time in the calendar at present. However, if I search on ExpertFlyer 297+ days it seems to yield no results, which I find interesting..
