HI all,
My 7 year old is traveling in J on AA from LAX-SYD. Her mother is being allowed through security until my 7 year old boards the plane. Are my daughter and her mother allowed into the QF TBIT J Lounge?. After all, my daughter has a J fare.

Interesting question and a scenario I don't think I've seen described before. I assume airport staff will accompany mum through passport/document checks to explain the situation considering she will have no boarding pass? That being the case maybe both could visit the lounge; your daughter can guest but of course all guests usually need to have a oneworld boarding pass. I'd consider calling QF to talk it through.

Ignoring your daughter's age for a moment, under normal guesting rules, mum wouldn't get access to the lounge:

International Business
Next onward flight that day must be a Qantas flight.
One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member on the same flight
.

If mum can get an exception to go through security without a BP (how easy or difficult was that to get?), then maybe an exception can also be achieved with the lounge, but I doubt it. Worth a try?

Interestingly, there is no age limit quoted in the access rules, linked to above, but there maybe a universal rule somewhere. I doubt an unaccompanied minor would be allowed into a lounge (due to booze being served).

Dont they normally provide a dummy boarding pass in this situation? That may allow lounge access but the only way to know for sure is to talk to QF.

The OP has not asked if a child can enter the lounge when alone. The child is accompanied by an adult. The question is abuot guest rules in this, unique, situation.

I know dummy boarding passes can be given out.
I had a huge fiasco with seat booking last year at LAX and they offered to let me go to the lounge with a dummy pass while they worked out which plane I would be travelling on back to Sydney

True (although the thread title is ambiguous) but it doesn't hurt to give a bit more info than requested ;)

They don’t get access to the lounge. My kids got vouchers to use at TBIT as despite having eligibility due to COS they were too young to go in as none 21 or over.
I agree with you and I don’t think the lounge access will be an option. Voucher will be issued and given to Mum is the most likely scenario here and I think a perfectly reasonable one.

I had no trouble getting into any airport lounge in the USA back when I was 18. Have things changed?

I have seen unaccompanied minors being admitted to Qantas lounges previously, but they were seated within easy view of the front desk and obviously not allowed near the alcohol.

OP here again. When I recently arrived at LAX terminal 4 with my wheel chair bound grandmother they did give me a pass (looked like a boarding pass of some sort) to escort her and wait air side until she boarded the plane.
Would think that a 7 year old with a J ticket should be able to wait in the J lounge with the responsible supervising adult, in theory would seem at least the compassionate/reasonable thing to offer.
