Hi There,

Just over a week ago I flew From Sydney to Doha, then a 2nd flight from Doha to Geneva with Qatar Airways.
When I checked in at Sydney, I gave the guy my Qantas frequent flyer number as this was a partner airline. I contacted Qantas about the points and they told me I couldn't claim any, as the fare I purchased with the partner airline is in a booking class that isn't eligible to earn Qantas Points.

They said The alpha code of my flight is N which is ineligible to earn points. Has anyone else had this issue?
I have never had an issue before, and I don't even know how to book a flight so the codes are changed?

Hi there.

According to QF, you were booked on Qatar Airways in 'N' class. This is indeed ineligible to earn points on the Qantas FF program.

Details of which classes can earn points can be found here: Frequent Flyer - Flying Qantas and Partner Airlines - Flying with Qantas & Jetstar - Earning Qantas Points

If you scroll down, you'll see QR only credits in K, L, M, V, B, H and Y for economy.

Finding out which class your class of ticket can be tricky, and it's worth contacting the airline to find out, before ticketing, if you can't easily find it during the booking process.

You could open a FF account with Qatar and see if they will retrospectively credit the miles. It will depend on the terms and conditions if they allow retroactive crediting, and the time period you have to do that.

Booking using QR's website and the booking class is displayed in the "review your journey" page after you select your flights.

There are at most four classes of economy fares for Qatar: Promo, Saver, Value and Flexi. Bookings in Promo and Saver are the codes that are not eligible, so if you want to earn QFF points on QR economy flights you need to select Value or Flexi fares.

Hi MEL_Traveller,

Thanks for the info. I took your advice and signed up with Qatar instead. They gave me the points right away.
