Anyone experienced Uber let downs in terms of service?

Tonight has almost put me off uber for good.

Changi Airport t1 arrivals. Noticed quite a few cars 4-6mins away. One accepted 12 mins away. Then it went up to 15 mins. Then after me waiting for 14 mins it cancelled. Just not acceptable.

Went back on to book another. Same scenario a few not far away and 14 mins away accepted. I cancelled immediately and went to taxi rank.

Very disappointing. Sent feedback lets see what they say.

Or am I being unreasonable?

At most airports there is a queue system for uber where the first driver in the geo fence to go online/available gets dibs on the next job.
It's possible the first few didn't accept you (they were slow? Other riders got in first, poor rating etc).
I've had bad drivers in all cities and that's why we have the rating system. To kill them off

You experienced the normal wait time for BNE. If you provide feedback you will probably get a credit.

Is that not normal for Thailand? Time is lost in that country to get from a to b?

TBH I almost used Uber once - in Shanghai when they were in a fierce competition with local equivalent DiDi - RMB5 ($1) rides basically anywhere in SH - jerk driver could not find Big Bamboo bar - even after local Chinese barmaid spent 5 mins on phone explaining where bar was - so he abandons job and I get charged RMB10 from Uber - what a fabulous concept this is.

In NYC last year I had a poor experience. I had booked a car that was only 2 minutes away after finishing up at dinner. Walked outside on to the street and couldn't locate the car. Waited, walked to the other side of the street and up and down. Stupidly, allowed ten minutes to pass so that when I eventually cancelled the booking, I was charged $10 by Uber. Most other experiences have been great, although there are some definite characters driving around for Uber. Good or bad...? I haven't decided.

I've been lucky so far - I've only had good experiences with Uber across multiple countries. The one bad experience was in Manila, where the driver had no idea where he was going and took some really round about way to get me to my destination. I gave the driver a bad rating and put the reason in as not taking the shortest route. 5 minutes later I had an email from Uber saying they reviewed the path taken, agreed it wasn't the shortest route and gave me credit for the difference between shortest route estimate and how much I was charged.

I've had one or two occassions where the Uber driver who accepted is too far away and I just cancel and give the reason that the driver is too far away. Not sure if it impacts my rating or not, but I'm not waiting 15 minutes for an Uber when I can get in a cab in 2 minutes. The saving in cost is sometimes just not worth the extra wait.

Definitely not. A reasonable person would do that.
While Uber and others have drivers who are really good, there are drivers who operate on several platforms including traditional taxis and some of these bring the poor service culture across.

I have had similar scenarios, and contacted Uber and was refunded without hesitation. They even make it easy to do this by providing a button to press on the trip log.

I too have been lucky. A few months ago, was taking uber to SYD and the traffic was INSANE. He ducked and weaved and after 40 min, it was so cheap. In a cab, I would have had a heart attack watching the meter spin, as the dirt bag driver did everything he could to stop at green lights and get in the slowest moving lane. I avoid cabs at all costs, and have absolutely loved uber in SYD, MEL, and LAX.

But, I'm glad to have read this. I was just looking at Uber for SIN, and thought "hmmm, maybe we give that a shot". I was going to use it from Orchard, to the airport but I'll monitor and decide closer how the uber situation is in SIN.

We've had nothing but good experiences so far, mainly used on the west coast of the US.

I woudnt think of using one in SIN because Ive always found taxis plentiful.

My 80 year old mother who is currently on a 23 stop USA/Canada "spend my inheritance" trip has taught herself how to use UBER. Her experience has been singularly positive with this mode of transport.

Positive Experiences with Uber all around, I've used it since Uber Black launched in Australia a few years ago, now use primarily Uber X everywhere. No problems using it in Aus, NZ, US, UK and SIN.
The one time I did have somewhat of an issue was a driver forgetting to cancel the trip when I got out in Melbourne, but a quick email to Uber had me a refund within 2 hours.

My boss was in China last week and told me that he used Uber and was picked up in a Maserati.

When he asked the driver about the car, the driver said that his dad bought it for him and he does the Uber thing to meet women.

Apparently the "My dad is rich and bought me this car" works well for him.

Wow, $10 for not turning up. No wonder they can fund legal cases all over the world.

I've few experiences of either drivers making mistakes or the app putting my in incorrect locations etc and having to cancel, every time I've cancelled with a valid reason I've simply provided feedback and have always been credited back the fee (without asking too) seems the default policy is to keep the riders happy!

Complain to Uber and obtain a refund if only on principle

It's important with Uber that the appropriate feedback is given. That will strengthen the service and make it better for all of us.

Personally I think it's fantastic. We have held off buying a third car on the uber services we have received.

And cheap.. In fact, they're probably the cheapest thing you can buy in Singers.

Response from Uber ... a stock standard type of response. Didn't address the issue that app was showing drivers within 5 mins yet which made me book (switch and bait I think it's called) a driver that was 15 mins away and after he cancelled it was nearly 30 mins after first booking before I was in a taxi ....

Sorry to hear about the trouble with this pickup. I completely understand that this wasn't the experience you expect when requesting a ride with Uber.We work hard to get the best partners on the road and we want them to be friendly, accommodating, and professional at all times for the comfort of riders.
This kind of behavior is not tolerated. We have a certain set of quality and safety standards that we expect all of our driver-partners to meet, so it’s important that we know of a concern like this so we can address it appropriately.
I've checked your trip, it looks like you were not charged with any cancellation fee for this trip.
We'll also clear up the details with your driver regarding the city knowledge concerns to avoid this kind of experience from happening again. We are continuously working with our driver partners to improve how to use their GPS.
Thanks again for letting us know about this—this kind of feedback is important in maintaining the kind of quality experience you should expect when using Uber.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions or concerns. We're here to help.
