Has anyone used UBER to get from BNE to the Gold Coast?

If so, any feedback? Is UBER reliable or will a booking be made and have no one turn up because the drive is too long?

Shouldn't be a problem, but I would call the driver as soon as they accept and confirm they are happy to take you. I don't imagine you'd want to be stuck in a car with someone who is pissed at you for an hour. Drivers don't like to cancel because it affects their numbers. Riders can cancel with 5? Minutes and not be charged.

I have used Uber between Brisbane and Ipswich no problem.

I'd also be expecting to be paying two-way fares as no way can the driver get a fare back (not sure if Uber does this?)

On Uber drivers don't know destination until they start job (which they aren't meant to do until they pick you up)

I've used uber from Abu Dhabi to Dubai one way and there were no issues around return fares although it's probably a more common route for them to do. Can't hurt to give it a go, call the driver and ask as soon as they accept and if no good you can just cancel.

Why? I went on UBER site and did a fare estimate and it states $101-$132, so surely all I'd be paying is (at worst) the max amount? I'd be thinking they already factor the return. Is there a guarantee of a maximum, or can you arrive and have the driver say "that'll be $500 mate"?

If you click on the ?, it then states:
- Base fare AU$2
- Per minute AU$0.32
- Per KM AU$1.00

RACQ trip planner gives my trip as 80km taking about 50 minutes so I'm assuming you add all the costs together (which would calculate out at AU$98). Would that sound right?

If I had to double the upper estimate of $132 then a taxi would be far cheaper and officially, a BNE taxi is not allowed to pick up a Gold Coast fare, so they're on a one way as well. It's cheaper to hire a car for 24 hours with the one way tax, but it's after 10 leaving the airport and I don't want to fall asleep at the wheel given I started work at circa 3.30 am. Trains have stopped and the shuttle is an absolute PITA which may not get me home until 2am. It seems UBER is an option as is a taxi but a taxi estimate is around $198.

When do you want to do it? I do some driving for uber and would 100% take you if I'm available.

Uber to Eagle Junction and train from there? Not sure time for last train Friday night.

Too close for comfort. There is one more GC train but it didn't leave much time for delays etc and it was getting to the point of becoming a no go, time wise. I don't really want to be getting home at 1-2 in the morning. 11-11.30 Ok ... much later and I'd prefer to overnight in CNS.

There is an 11:23pm train from Bowen Hills that gets to Varsity Lakes at 12:52am. I am sure you could make an earlier train arriving at 10:05pm. Don't think Uber to Bowen Hills would be too long a trip.

Depends on when you are doing the trip as traffic might be heavy and quicker to take the train to maybe Nerang and get a Uber from there

After 10 at night, the only traffic is if they're doing road works.

Too long to wait. The reason I don't just hire a car is that I get tired about that time and there's no way I'm going to sit on a railway station for an hour just to save $40-$50 (UBER to Bowen Hills is $27-$34). I could be home patting the dog by then (as the dog is the only family that waits up for me ;)). If I wanted to spend half the night travelling, I'd be better to take the shuttle for $60.

I'd never heard of them, so I just looked on their web site, but I'm unsure how it works. It states it's cheaper than Uber, but it seems it's just a booking tool. How?

I used GoCatch in Melb and got a taxi that picked me up. Basically taxi rates but I had the initial $10 bonus .. Or something like that. So was not worth it for me in Melb, except the initial $10

Gave them a go last year - was impossible to get a taxi or ride share accepted. Seems like the google+ of these apps (a ghost town), likely just created to turn people off using any of these apps. Will be good when lyft and others come to town.
