OK, Probably "mundane" to some vastly more experienced QFFers, but first this novice-year WP, perfect examples of why I choose to stick with QF ....

Firstly, booked on last Weds QF456 departing MEL 5:15. Jump in my cab at 3:45 (usual time) on a conf call, we hit Citylink and the place is a car park with a snake of traffic over the Bolte. We debate and decide on the Ring Road - big mistake. I usually check-in in the cab, the phone call goes all the way to the airport, driver works miracles, we finally arrive at 4:55 (about 30mins later than usual). I'm in an exit row - couldnm't use the machines/nextGen anyway, regardless: check-in has closed, J service desk has a tail of about 4 folks. I spot one of the "floor walkers" who work out of the kiosks they like to keep hidden, explain I'm on the 5:15 but I'm not checked-in. A call, the flight is opened again, I'm issued my BP, *politely* informed the flight is already boarding through Gate 1 (yes!!). I thank him profusely. Security is a breeze through the priority channel and I manage to board between first-call scrum and J-Lounge arrivals. Thank you, QF, my bad - and it was no issue for you.

Booked on QF457 back Thursday. About 11:30 receive a call to tell me that it's been cancelled and I'm offered either the 5:30 (15mins earlier) or 6:30, I opt for the 5:30. Nice to get a call for a change, usually the first I know is either an SMS or a notification through BBTravel. However, about 5mins later it dawns on me that I was already tight with the 457 and I'm now very doubtful to get that 5:30 - yes, I'm greyer these days and things don't register so quickly ... I'm also male so can only single-task!! A quick call to the WP Desk and I'm on the 6:30. Again, no fuss, everything done politely, professionally with the interests of the passenger/customer uppermost.

Thank you Qantas, looking forward to my 4 days flying next week!

Regards,

BD

You gave 2 small examples that show very well how QF treats it's frequent flyers.
It happened to me a few times to get stuck in traffic in MEL and always got a call from QF asking how far I am from the airport and if it's under 15 min they usually wait.
Same thing with cancelled flights, always got a call offering earlier or later service.

Just highlights what a disgrace it is that there is no rail to Melbourne airport. If there was you could confidently get on a train at the appropriate time and be confident if being on time. And if course those that livein the North Western suburbs could go about their daily lives without being stuck in airport traffic.

I always seem to have QF call me from a blocked number, so I don't answer and have to ring them back.. if they called from the same number each time, I'd save it to my contacts and answer it! :p

Checkin before you jump in the cab

I don't think it's a disgrace, but it is a question of how we fund infrastructure. We are a large country, small population who loves to hand out money to bleeding hearts and the unproductive.

How do you want to play it?

Wouldn't work for me - our Office is halfway down St Kilda Rd. I do catch the Sydney Airport train in the late afternoon, from Town Hall - Far better than relying on a cab at that time.
