Strange thing happened today. Checked in at LAS for a flight to MIA. Get to the boarding pass checker and it beeps 3 times. I think uh-oh its a problem. No it turns out I can use the TSA pre lane. First time its ever happened to me. I am on a Done5 so flying AA 'first'. Did not want to ask a TSA agent in case it became an issue.

Has this happened to anyone else?

not on QF, but my Mum is UA1k and the same thing happened to her - all of a sudden TSA precheck just appeared on all her boarding passes.

This month 5 AA flights. On the first 4 it would alternate between mrsdrron(WP) and myself(AA plat) getting TSA pre check.5th flight we both got it.

LAX-LAS last week. My two kids got it - nothing for me or SWMBO.......however, she was processed as an Emerald guaranteeing AA Flagship access for the 4 of us:D SWMBO is SG.

LAS-LAX on Saturday. The kids and the wife get it and I bomb out.....the three of them got shunted over to the quick land and I was left with disrobing the belt and shoes.......again Emerald for the wife.

Have another 2 flights coming up so will be interesting to see what pops up.

Have a bunch of flights over next 3 weeks will be interesting to see what happens. Will report back.

Very interesting. I took a dozen or so AA flights in October/November, and not once did I have it on my BP's.

Would be great if the US Government opened it up.

Very excited at the prospect of TSA precheck for WPs! Nothing for me in a series of AA flights in November so must be very recent.

Just this morning I booked my next AA status run for June next year. Fingers crossed...

Left through JFK last week and there was a massive security queue. A TSA rep turned up a few people ahead of me and started using a touch screen. When you got to it, you hit the button and it gave you a left arrow to stay in the horrendous queue or a right arrow. I got the right arrow and was put into a TSA pre check line. Straight through a scanner without needing to remove laptop, belts, liquids or shoes.

Only about 1/10 people won the lottery!

Well as others (and AA check in lady) have reported it sure seems random. Today's flight is MIA-JFK and no TSA-Pre for me today sadly.

My 2 kids and wife got it on their boarding passesdeparting LGA on Dec 26. I didn't get it but at the junction of the queue- i was allowed to go with the family. Maybe they didn't like my 3 day old stubble.

The six of us have had a mixture of pre-check and no luck on our recent flights. Youngest daughter (NB) has had it on every flight, me as WP not once. I think the system is randomly applying it at the minute.
Would be nice if we could actually apply.

I think aussie kids 12 and under are TSA preapproved. Their parents may or may not be. Usually kids 12 and under dont havev to remove shoes so its just a natural extension.

They only need to sneak one bomb through while we have to stop every bomb

I had 10 flights around the US over Nov & Dec, as WP I was never given TSA Pre-Check. I had to stand back jealously watching in IND, as a colleague got through in 2 minutes, and I took almost 30!

Ok next flight today JFK - DFW got the TSA Pre today - very nice to not have to take off shoes and belt - laptop stayed in bag and the whole process took about 90 seconds. So now 2 out of 3 with pre check

I got one yesterday on an inter-island flight in Hawaii. I am QF WP, but they wouldn't know that. I had just updated my Hawaiian booking to include my VA WP, but I am not sure what influence that had. SWMBO is also QF WP, and NB Virgin. Got nothing. There was coincidentally a big spiel about it in the in flight magazine. It seems like there is a black box behind this and the article makes it clear that just because you get it once doesn't mean that you will get it next time. I'll try and get more info on my next flight.
Sorry if anyone else has covered this but the tick means laptop can stay in bag and shoes can stay on, and you avoid body scan.

Was that Hawaiian Airlines, Newk? Was hoping to find the aritcle on the mag's web site Hana Hou: The Magazine of Hawaiian Airlines - Current Issue

If you have another flight, any chance you might keep the article & post it when you get back? :)

yes. Hawaiian
have several more flights so will try to get soft and hard copy. If I'd come across this thread before my tick experience I'd definitely have kept it first time.

Cheers.

I have it on good authority that the TSA have said the pre-check is under utilised, and as such they are 'randomly' opening it to others, but have not specified the criteria for those people.

The 4 of us got nothing on the BP flying AC DCA-YYZ the other day. We're doing AA YUL-MIA tomorrow so we'll see what pops up.
