Have anyone used trip.com ?

I was browsing for fares for the peak Christmas period, being a multi stop plan complicates it a bit, basically I need to go SYD->HKG, then HKG->TOKYO, then TOKYO->SYD.

Qantas.com can sell me an open jaw with CX for HKG->NRT leg... at a price
of course if I book it will be listed as a Qantas itinerary...

however TRIP.com is able to provide a cheaper fare, however SYD->HKG on QF, HKG->NRT on CX, however for the NRT->SYD trip is via PVG or PEK, using JA metal to PVG/PEK, then Qantas from PVG/PEK to SYD !
and it is cheaper.... being holiday season it is OK.

I just wonder which airline's booking will that be ? interesting booking routing !

As a general rule you shouldn't be transferring through China unless you have good reason to do so. Delays are frequent due to ATC restrictions meaning you need to allow a long transit time - at least 3 to 4 hours. Weather can be another complicating factor. My last flight exHND was delays more than 4 hours.

You may also have to collect your luggage, regardless of whether it is all on the one ticket. This means you may need to enter China (transit without visa), recheck, and then pass back through immigration. Any delays and your connection can be lost.

You might consider a very early flight ex NRT to PVG/PEK, then take an evening flight to Australia. The only problem is that without an hotel reservation you may be refused entry to China for the day, even if you are eligible for TWOV (stays under 8 hours in particular are likely to cause problems).

well at least priority pass allow entry to the air china first lounge @ PEK only, which includes free sleeping rooms, at least last time when I was there....

thanks for the tip, I have found that PVG is worst for delays, PEK average....

Trip.com is the Chinese travel agency ctrip. I recently booked some domestic QF flights through them (and paid in RMB) at a price that was significantly better than on the QF site. The tickets were issued on QF (081- tickets) within 1 hour of the booking., and were for SYD-MEL-SYD.

ahh thought that was so.
We have used Ctrip in the past many times in China and have never had an issue. Their train ticket bookings especially are great

Do you mean JL (Japan Airlines)?

I largely avoid OTAs but did book with Skyscanner-associated trip.com/ctrip earlier in the year (following a successful booking with eDreams).

The booking process seemed unfinished and didn't fill me with confidence. When checking the booking on the operating airline's website, I discovered the APIS details bore absolutely no resemblance to what I had entered. I also seem to recall there were other minor issues that concerned me at the time.

In the end I bought an earlier flight so don't know if there would have been problems at check-in, but either way I'll be avoiding trip.com in future.
