TravelPass with DSC offer (No Longer Offerred)

Decided this was a better option to keep DSC
I too cancelled a DSC booking to the hapless SYD, but I quailed at the very idea of waiting for call centre assistance, so I said a few hail Marys and hit the cancel/voucher button. As luck would have it I got an intact PNR which should have the DSCs attached. Just wondering in such cases what improvement the "travelpass with DSCs" is over a PNR with hopefully DSCs still attached?

With TravelPass, it offers longer validity for DSC which is also good for multiple bookings. If you take a TravelPass with the DSC option, any bookings made with it before the expiration (31 Dec 2022) will be eligible for DSC as long as you a) paid for the entire booking with the TravelPass, or b) used the remaining balance of the TravelPass on the booking.

I'm assuming your original PNR that the credit was issued for was for the March DSC promotion which means you would need to travel by 28 Feb 2022 in order for it to attract DSC. Additionally, if you don't use up the entire balance on one booking, you will be issued a credit for the remaining balance which will be on a new PNR that won't get DSC.

If you converted to a credit and would like a TravelPass instead this can be done but only if you were eligible for a refund anyway I believe (i.e. Qantas cancelled a flight and you opted for a flight credit) -- just call them and ask if there is an option to convert it to a TravelPass with DSC. I did this last year a number of times and the agents were happy to oblige.

@RichardMEL sometimes our data points are different to WP and can be vastly different to SG and below. Just saying.
yes perhaps. In this instance though the only difference would have been the near zero wait time on the call but otherwise everything else was, as I understand it, by the book. I see no reason why a Bronze or other member in the same situation could not request a travel pass for a booking involving flight cancelled by QF - and that was the (data) point I offered.

Certainly in no way did the agent indicate because I was P1 any special exception was being made. In fact she did check the booking was eligible for it, not that *I* was eligible.

so I do understand the general point you're making regarding waivers and perks afforded to higher status passengers, I do not believe that was a factor in this instance - again apart from the top of the phone queue priority.

Oh as a very small follow up to my above interaction with QF to get the Travel Pass - I received an email within about 30 minutes saying my booking was being converted to a TP with the DSC option, valid till Dec, 2022 etc (all good) and that it would take up to three weeks to process. No issue for me, but it certainly does not seem to be an instant process as with credit vouchers. A little surprised at that, but again no issue personally. The confirmation email as reference is all I need at this point and I expect things will happen in due course (implied there is a manual process involved)

That was also my experience. While I was on the phone, I asked if I needed to use the credit ( travel pass) in a hurry, if I could call and the agent could use it for a booking. Answer was a definite 'yes'. I'm a bit doubtful, but is would be worth trying.

I paid for a couple of flights to Melbourne next week from Perth using the Travelpass from a previous cancelled flight and it's looking likely that the border situation is going to change again and I may need to cancel. Do you think it's safe to assume that any refund will be credited back into my Travelpass credits?
I’ve been though this and has the explicitly ask (and push) them to credit back to the travel pass to avoid getting a regular credit. This credit took 12+ weeks to appear same as a regular refund to credit card.

TP was just issued which is pretty good. Not quite 4 days. Better than three weeks! :)
Called on Friday 16/07 around 0750 and spoke to Frank in Hobart re booking cancelled 1 Aug. Was offered full refund however asked for TravelPass with DSC and received opt-in confirmation email 0756!

Also asked if existing $1429 travel credit could be converted to TP with DSC - no problem at all with confirmation email received 0800!

TravelPass expiring 12/22 received just before midday (Monday 19/07) for existing travel credit, TP for cancelled booking still pending.

Much better than waiting for a refund I reckon and provides a lot more flexibility from my perspective 😃

oo! I wish I'd thought to ask for that. That's great.

So was that a cancelled flight credit? I have so m many lol. I'd love to be able to convert them. That's a great idea. thank you! (I am surprised QF actually agreed to do this tbh so this is awesome).

On reflection I can see one fiscal benefit for QF. Say you purchased a ticket and cancelled it today. The credit would be valid until at least Dec '23 per the current T&C, and possibly a bit longer (if one used a GV with a three year validity as form of payment). In the case of converting such a credit to a TP they reduce that liability by effectively 12 months(and maybe a bit more).

I may have to call later tonight when it is quieter and see if I can get something sorted out :)

The flight credit came from a booking made 10/12/20 for return SYD-MEL in June. When the March DSC offer came out I cancelled the original ticket and actually wanted a refund but could only select Flight Credit.

FC info showed valid until 10 Dec 2021 BUT conditions noted if original booking made before 28/02/21 FC could be used for multiple future bookings and travel until 31/12/23. In any case I had every intention of using the credit later this year so the end date didn't bother me too much.

Maybe because it was a refundable J ticket or perhaps due to the original booking date, when I asked about converting to a TravelPass with DSC, Hobart Agent said "let me check - yes, that's fine".

Good luck!

Cancellation notice arrived this morning for a Tasman business class trip at the end of the month.

I called - navigated the new menu and after inputting my WP FF number was advised a wait time of over an hour. I waited for all of 10 seconds.

Answered "Qantas premium" by a helpful and pleasant agent. I gave my booking details, they looked it up and asked me how they could help me (almost apprehensively).

I straight out asked for "a Travel Pass with DSC"; I thought I could hear a quiet sigh of relief -"Yes, that would be fine!".

They confirmed the amount and advised they "do these in batches" about once a month (I'm in no hurry) and I should receive full detail within that time.

I already have the DSC confirmation email.

Thank you to those who helped in this thread. 🏆

I was also able to convert a QF cancelled flight from a credit voucher to a DSC Travel pass by calling up as a WP. No issue, they were very happy to do it. Expiry to make booking will be Dec, 2022. Expected to have the travel pass email in 1-2 weeks.

Similar to serfty we had Trans-Tasman return J Saver cancellations come through this morning for a trip in early August. I had a quick and easy conversation this morning to convert the credit to a Travel Pass with DSCs. We should be able to use it for two Trans-Tasman J sale fare DSC trips split across two QFF membership years making WP requalification a bit easier for a while. Well done Team AFF :)

It would be nice if they did away with flight credits and allowed TP's to be issued online (and heck, automate selection of options like DSC). I know there's another thread on this currently going.. just thought I'd carry on about it here :D

Dumb question, did QF notify this by email only or is there something on the website about this, or a secret handshake?

I am regularly thinking of ringing up the QF Call centre when things calm down there; unfortunately every time I think of this someone else bungs on a lockdown.

I have around 4k in DSC travel passes. Does anyone reckon qantas will screw everyone if you don't get to use them? or flights will open up enough next year that you would be able to use some of them, so only a small % of people will get screwed over... and qantas won't care, cause well they need the revenue?
