Hi all,

I am travelling to Europe and back next week so I was hoping to get some thoughts on which lounges are best to use on my journey?

Here is the flight plan to Europe :

SYD – SIN QF5 (Y requested for upgrade to J) departs 1:10pm and arrives 7:20pm – which lounge in SIN is best one in the evening for a simple bite to eat and few beers ? Waiting time 4 hours.

SIN – HEL – BUD with Finnair (J) – departs 11:35pm , arrives 6:35am to HEL – is the Finnair lounge the best one to use for a nice breakfast? Flight from HEL to BUD leaves at 9:30am so I’ll have 3 hours. Are the shower facilities ok in this lounge? Would be nice to be fresh when I arrive in BUD.

And coming back:

BUD-HEL – BKK Finnair (J) – arrive in BKK 7:15am – any thoughts on the est lounge around that time in BKK? I’ll have 4 hours to spare.

BKK – SIN – arrives 3:10pm and have nearly 5 hours to spare so happy to try some other lounge than the one recommended on the way down.

It’s a bit of flying and waiting but I don’t mind, I want to have a nice experience as I have not flow in J internationally that much.

Just to double check, am I eligible to access any lounge that is part of the one world alliance as Gold FF? Or only the airlines that the next connecting flight is on?

Many thanks for advice !

in Singapore the new qantas lounge is the one to be in. use it both ways.

in HEL i think there are a couple of lounges. they might be divided into schengen and non-schengen? you'll use the one in your relevant departure area. you can go onto the finnair website for full information about their lounges.

in BUD finnair will tell you at checkin which lounge you can use, there used to be a BA one, quite nice.

in bangkok on the way back if the qantas lounge is not open you will be using the cathay pacific lounge or japan airlines lounge. the cathay ones are fine and there are several of them, so you can pick the one closest to your departure gate (provided of course you are flying on a oneworld carrier and not jetstar. if it is jetstar you are limited to the QF lounge).

both as a oneworld gold and as a oneworld business class passenger you can access any oneworld business class lounge based on status or class of service.

Quick update as Im travelling through.

the Q lounge in SIN is fantastic, good size and offers great food and service.

at Helsinki, On the way to Europe, I had to use the lounge on the other side of the airport with flights mainly to Europe. Its nice, clean, modern and quite functional but pretty basic. No showers which was a shame as I needed on. The lounge I used on the way back at the other end of the airport is lot bigger and looks pretty funky and has all facilities including showers. Loved the beer on tap.

right now sitting in Cathay lounge in BKK. To be honest, this should not be called Cathay first and business class lounge. There are not even toilets here!!! Shocker. You have to leave the lounge to use the bathroom. Bit disappointing.
