So I need to get around to booking my next flight this weekend for an international trip I need to leave for on Tuesday and I ended up downloading the kayak app with it's trip stats feature. I uploaded my last couple of trips (easy enough) and then got hooked on seeing how many of my other previous flight bookings I could find to upload and see if I could get some indication of how much I have been flying in the last 10 years.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a large number of itineraries so my final stats are far from accurate and there are few years when I didn't fly at all but two years stood out in particular that seemed to me to be quite excessive for the amount of flying I did in each of the12 month periods.

Worth noting also that pretty much 100% of my travel is international so there would be less than 5 domestic flights in the stats I have managed to record. These are the results I have so far based on travel between 2008 and today with about 3 years of almost no flying.

Total Distance:
  • 1,126,448 km
Number of Flights:
  • 184
Most Crazy Year:
  • 290,850 km flown in 2013

Honourable Mentions:
  • 290,454 km flown in 2012
  • 109,685 km flown in 2017
  • 176,223 km flown to date in 2018
I am assuming there are more than a few people here that also track their flying so I am keen to see what everyone else does and if you have had a particularly crazy year that stands out from the rest.

Hi @GlobalT

Many of us do indeed track our flying :). There are applications and programs such as Flight Memory that do it, but many here use the AFF 'Flight Tracker'. Often you'll see it in the 'signature' area of people's posts. Here is my Flight tracker map etc RooFlyer Flight tracker. If you go there, and click on 'about' in the top RH area, you'll see stats on other AFF members who use Flight Tracker. Click on the underlined names to bring up their Flight Tracker pages.

There are ways to import data from other applications into flight tracker - if you want you can ask @support about Kayak.

if you go up to the top menu, under member benefits & services, you'll see flight tracker. I'm a paid member, so I don't know if what you see (if you are an unpaid member) is what I see (could be a song in that ...)

At the end of every year, there is a thread created where members can recount their flying for the year, including firsts etc. A great inspiration to try harder!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Thanks, that is a great tool. I will have to see if I can find the time and motivation to add historical flights to that site.
