Given the current situation,I am after a travel insurance for the USA that will cover cancellation etc. if there is war or acts of terrorism .

What is the best option here..

What USA War are you talking about?...
I imagine it might the one that involved the possible shooting down of the Ukranian 737 departing Tehran today.

Just being on the safe side no war as such yet but it’s just the IF....

There have been coups, conflagrations, battles, invasions and even some wars in the Middle East for at least the last 60 years, so I reckon the insurance companies will have you covered.

I see Budget Direct has two green ticks but also has a blurb saying it’s not covered.

I can’t help with policies, sorry. Maybe just don’t visit Iraq/Iran on your way. 😉

However, if I was concerned about the possibility of an outbreak of war on USA soil (e.g., in LA, NYC, etc) as a traveller, then I wouldn’t be going there, insurance or not. At least not until the results of the next US Presidential elections are in. 😀

This is just a guess, but even if I could find an appropriate policy, I would have no confidence in any insurer actually paying up, given possible exclusions.

I would stick to the ‘usual’ travel coverage things: medical, delays, cancellations, baggage loss, etc., and enjoy the trip.

I don’t think any policy covers terrorism or act of war but they do cover any injuries and also flight delays etc. So really, I have no idea.

I wouldn't be paying an extra for 'war' cover if you're only intending on going to the USA. Unless DFAT issues a 'do not travel' for the USA - which is virtually unthinkable - you're probably going to end up flying.

You reckon the insurance companies will have you covered? What awful advice.

Two of our policies clearly state in the general exclusions:
"We will not cover losses under any sections of these terms and conditions which are recoverable from any other source, or arising from:" .......

......."declared or undeclared war or any act thereof".......

While war is highly unlikely to be fought on USA soil, terrorism (retaliation) is probable, and a policy PDS should be carefully read from start to finish to understand what you will and will not be covered for (especially since some sections nicely contradict each other).

While I would take into consideration others personal experiences with particular insurances and claims, I wouldn't take their advice as to take or not take cover without really understanding the particular policy (also remembering that policies by the same insurer can even vary dramatically).

As I recall, the OP was travelling to the US, not the Middle East, and that is what my comment was related to.

Clearly:

But anyway, my comment was in response to you saying insurance companies will have the OP covered in the event of a cancellation due to war/act of war, which they won't.
