Am after some coverage for if/when airlines make schedule changes and put you on different flights on different days, not due to airline strikes/natural disaster. Want coverage for additional accommodation needs, cancelling pre-booked accomm etc.

Have read through a LOT of policies today but none I found seem to so I thought I'd ask the experts...

Do any exist for this type of scenario?

Thanks in advance

I don't think such a policy exists. It would appear most travel insurance policies exclude the scenario where the carrier is responsible for the change to the schedule.[FONT=Helvetica 55 Roman,Helvetica 55 Roman][FONT=Helvetica 55 Roman,Helvetica 55 Roman][FONT=Helvetica 55 Roman,Helvetica 55 Roman][FONT=Helvetica 55 Roman,Helvetica 55 Roman][FONT=Helvetica 55 Roman,Helvetica 55 Roman][FONT=Helvetica 55 Roman,Helvetica 55 Roman]

I have been researching travel insurance for my father, who is 71, and came across OnlineTravelInsurance and looked up some of the PDS. It would appear that travel delays are covered if I am reading the fine print correctly.

TRAVEL DELAY ALLOWANCE

You have this cover if you choose Plan A or B.

13.1 WE WILL PAY
We will reimburse the cost of your reasonable additional meals and accommodation expenses if a delay to your journey, for at least 6 hours, arises from circumstances outside your control
We will pay up to $200 at the end of the initial 6 hour period. In addition we will pay up to $200 for each full 24 hour period that the delay continues beyond the initial 6 hour delay.

The maximum amount we will pay for all claims combined under this section is shown under the Table of Benefits for the Plan you have selected.

13.2 WE WILL NOT PAY
We will not pay if a delay to your journey arises from any of the following reasons:
a] You can claim your additional meals and accommodation expenses from anyone else.
b] The financial collapse of any transport, tour or accommodation provider
c] Your claim arises directly or indirectly from an act or threat of terrorism.

YOU MUST CHECK GENERAL EXCLUSIONS APPLICABLE TO ALL SECTIONS PAGES 31 AND 32 FOR OTHER REASONS WHY WE WILL NOT PAY.

ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT EXPENSES

You have this cover if you choose Plan A.

14.1 WE WILL PAY
We will pay your reasonable additional travel expenses as determined by us to reach a wedding, funeral, conference, sporting event or prepaid travel/tour arrangements on time if your scheduled transport is cancelled, delayed, shortened or diverted and that means you would not arrive on time.

The maximum amount we will pay for all claims combined under this section is shown under the Table of Benefits for the Plan you have selected.

14.2 WE WILL NOT PAY
a] We will not pay if cancellation, delay, shortening or diversion of your scheduled transport arises from the financial collapse of any transport, tour or accommodation provider.
b] We will not pay if your claim arises directly or indirectly from an act or threat of terrorism.

YOU MUST CHECK GENERAL EXCLUSIONS APPLICABLE TO ALL SECTIONS PAGES 31 AND 32 FOR OTHER REASONS WHY WE WILL NOT PAY.
I don't think the General Exclusions rule out delays due to airline schedule changes for whatever reason.

I don't think that's accurate.... In the PDS you link

1.2 WE WILL NOT PAY
f] Delays or rescheduling by a bus line, airline, shipping line or rail authority.

h] The mechanical breakdown of any means of transport.

Possibly but I think the wording you reference is specific to Section 1 CANCELLATION FEES AND LOST DEPOSITS.

We will not pay if you were aware of any reason, before your period of cover commenced, that may cause your journey to be cancelled, abandoned or shortened. Nor will we pay if your cancellation fees or lost deposits arise because of:

I cannot see any exclusion in the General Exclusions or in the relevant sections I quoted for Section 13 TRAVEL DELAY ALLOWANCE and Section 14 ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT EXPENSES.

I highly doubt you'll find an insurance policy which covers airline rescheduling, i've certainly never come across any such coverage in my time in the industry and it makes no sense for them to provide such coverage as it will only mean premiums will have to rise to make up the $$ lost to claims.

As far as i'm aware, generally Travel delay as mentioned on alot of policies covers for those travelling for a specific event such as a wedding where should they arrive late they're likely to miss it and is meant to cover costs associated with finding alternate arrangements to get there on time, it's not something that merely covers every single airline delay...god knows the insurance companies would be out of business if it were.
