In the next 12 months I've got a few F/J flights coming up and looking though the terms and conditions on a couple of policies it appeared that in the event of say a missed connection or illness all of them replaced the lost flights with economy.

Does anyone here have a recommendation for a TI company that replaces lost F/J flight with the same?

Thanks

I have a Columbus Direct annual policy. I just looked at the wording about missed connections and it says

You are NOT covered for

c. any extra costs incurred for accommodation or transport
of a higher level or fare category than that which you
originally booked.

From my reading that means that you are covered for the same class of travel for which you paid provided that can be had within the claim limit of the policy.

Just looking on my Columbus schedule this is $2k limit so this policy would need the airline to be coming to the party about the missed connection for the policy to fund the change to a different J/F flight, otherwise it's a $2k economy tix from London to BNE. Both the Columbus STandard and Premier policies have the same limit for "Missed Departure"

This might be a bit of a moot point.

In most cases where connecting flights are on a single ticket, the airline responsible for the delay will protect you on the next available flight. Sometimes on a different airline.

There are only one or two policies that cover true ‘missed connections’ in cases where you have separate tickets. And even then, under strict conditions (such as being scheduled to be at the connecting point at the time checkin is supposed to open, which i susually three hours before flight departure). Otherwise most policies will only cover a missed connection for a ‘special event’ (which are defined as things such as a conference where you are the keynote speaker, and similar).

For other cases, if you have an F/J ticket these are generally flexible, so you can change these fairly easily. One airlines charge a change fee, this would likely be covered under insurance in the event if illness. And probably the fare difference as well, if applicable.

If your ticket is an award ticket, and you cannot cancel in time and get a refund, insurance companies have different ways of calculating this loss. The most generous is that they refund you the points at the equivalent of the airfare you got as an award.

A missed connection on separate tickets on an award, not due to illness, may be a bit of a tricky issue in terms of replacement flights.

In the next few weeks I'm taking one of my CX F error fares from Vietnam to the US and around 12 hours after arrival I catch a paid J flight to EZE with a non Oneworld carrier. My concern on this occasion is that the current civil unrest in HK could delay/cancel my flight to the US thus impacting my connection from there.

CX will protect you on another one of their flights in the event of disruption. They may provie hotels and meals, but if not, that is something your insurance should cover under 'travel delay' if more than 6 hours (or whatever the time is that this provision kicks in with your insurance). There's apossibility if your insurance company is being mean that they might exclude cover for 'civil unrest' or 'riot'. But that would only affect your hotel/meals, which as you are in premium may not be such an issue if you have lounges.

Your connecting flight in the USA to EZE, if also in F or J should mean you have the flexibility to change the flight. Possibly with a change fee, which may or may not be covered by your insurance. If the flight is non-refundable economy, the issue of whether travel insurance covers F/J is moot, as the replacement flight, if covered, would be in economy.
