Anyone ever wondered how interesting it would be if the walls and floor of our planes were transparent - maybe made out of solar panels - solar panels on the outside only obviously. The only exception would be the toilet walls.

think of the possibilities!!! -
  • everyone gets a window seat, even those who dont want one
  • those of us you prefer aisles, can still ask for that
  • you can look at ALL the clouds - maybe take some weight off the IFE system
  • if you knew what bin your checked in luggage was in, you could keep an eye on it in-flight
  • if the plane did do toilet tank dumps you could go t*rd spotting
  • you could play eye spy - could be a short game though - not much to see outside at that altitude
  • the solar panels could help offset the planes CO2 impact, and reduce some of the stress on the engines
  • during a storm you could watch all the lightning strikes on the panels over your fellow passengers heads - so close to being so fried..
and that is just for starters.

just wonderin'....... juts sayin'................

too much spare time on my hands perhaps ?

Note Well - This thread is not meant to be taken too seriously .....

Interesting concept.

Especially interesting for the loo.

Pointless.
Ignoring all the supports/struts and insulation.

As shown in EKs new 777, I suspect Virtual Windows will be the future.
Possibly running the entire length of the aircraft.
Would likely enable lighter, stronger and more sound insulated aircraft.

Don't think solar panels will ever deliver enough power to keep an aircraft flying

Even though "This thread is not meant to be taken too seriously ..... "

What is behind the panelling and under the floor is pretty impressive, but would spoil the view.
