Transitting, LHR or FRA

Hi All,
Looking at some flights for an upcoming trip to Europe (Y).

Oneworld preferred as l have OWE emerald status. (l also hold dual passports; Oz + EU)

Option 1
SYD-SIN-FRA-BUD vv with a stop in BKK on return sector

Option 2
SYD-SIN-LHR-BUD vv with a stop in BKK on return sector


SC's and Miles aren't too much different between the 2 options and the price is within ~$100.

I have been to LHR numerous times and was thinking of going through FRA for something different. LHR T5 is nice but when l went through last time l was only QC Silver, so l haven't experienced BA FLounge yet though.

How much time would be needed if change of terminal @FRA was needed and what is immigration like? (I'm guessing that immigration wouldn't be a hassle if it's run in typical German precision standards)

Frankfurt is easy for transferring between flights. Beware you can have a huge walk though if one of the end gates. Always surprises me that the FRA/GRZ flights make you walk the length of the terminal only to catch a bus!

Now a OWE, make the most of T5 lounges, FRA has bugger all for owe

I personally would go LHR for the increased options if the flight is delayed/late/needs changing and the lounges.

Much of a muchness in my opinion.

Heathrow is bigger and more impersonal. Frankfurt is easier to navigate and not as busy.

If I were flying specifically into Europe I would avoid Heathrow and fly into Frankfurt. (As i did 2 weeks ago, and again on 12 Feb.) :-|

I did that exact trip through to BUD 18 months ago and found FRA easy. I've been back since, but FRA has been my final destination, but I've always found the airport so easy to get around. I've never transited through LHR, but I can't fault FRA except for the average lounges. In saying that they aren't horrible, they just aren't industry leading in furnishing, food etc.

QF 5/6 were quite old and worn down when I took them. At least if you go via LHR you can get A380 on the way there.

I am really not afraid of LHR for connections like others. I have had a number of transit through there in the last 3 years and all have gone smoothly. Perhaps I don't take the risks that others take and like to leave plenty of time for connections.

I also like T5 and the only time there were some issues in LHR was when they were building T5.
