In 2 & half weeks I begin a month on and off planes, effectively a status run!

On my first day I have an odd transit. I'm arriving at MEB (ie. Essendon Airport) leaving myself 90 minutes to make it up the Tulla freeway and board the my QF flight. I think & hope that will be enough time. I'm going to be virtually luggage-less.

So not frequenting Melbourne in a long time, should I just be arranging a Taxi pick-up? I've lost the list of which public buses head up towards Tullamarine but I know it's not good. Anyone actually passed through MEB in recent times? The last time I landed there I was in primary school... ;)

Get a taxi, MEL is literally 10 mins up the road. probably cost about $15-20

Essendon is still the same! just quieter!

+1 a taxi is by far the easiest and wont be that expensive.

Who's flying into Essendon (from where?)?

Thanks dajop. Interesting, you'd think it'd be better into MEL but i guess landing charges and perhaps they've decided the majority of their pax only want to go to Melbourne (and not immediate onward connection), the OP excepted.

Thanks guys, I had been planning on a taxi all along, though there does seem to be a tram & bus *into* the city so was wondering.

I guess I should of been more specific, is there a taxi rank of any sort - I'm guessing no. 90 minutes is plenty unless things go wrong so I'm seeing what I'm in for.

SH also fly to AVV and use the arrivals building / area as check-in so you can avoid all the JQ and now TT plebs.

There should be a few cabs around, there is now a shopping centre and loads of Car dealers around Essendon Airport.
Essendon Fields
Also Airport West Shopping Center is only a few minutes away and there are usually a few taxis hanging around the shopping center.

If you want to be certain that there will be a taxi waiting for you, I have a great silver service (Extra $10 but worth it for no stress) taxi that I use that I can recommend.

There's a cab rank at Airport West (Westfield) shopping centre, but it's a 30 minute walk or 5 minute tram ride.

What day of the week are you travelling? If you wan't to save a few $$$, the 478 bus to the Airport runs up Matthews Ave past MEB on Weekends at around *:45 past the hour - arriving at the Airport on the hour.

Personally, I'd find a Taxi - just head out to Matthews Ave and flag one down.

Joshua,

Just confirming what others have alluded to. Essendon and Tullamarine Airports are only a few 8 Km apart and the quickest, easiest and most practical method to transfer is a cab. The next best option is probably to walk.

I did check google maps, just wasn't certain re: cab rank. I'm happy to take public transport if it's convenient otherwise prefer the old taxi. Actually I would walk it wo/ luggage if it was a good day and had more time, nice to get out of the airports :)

Bus is no good time wise, it will be a Monday afternoon/evening. Thank you though, I'm saving that timetable for future reference. I wasn't even aware of the Westfield there! I could take the tram as they appear to be very frequent. Since I can walk straight onto the aircraft, OLCI and all, I don't want to rush to Tulla if there's time.

Of course a pre-arranged taxi will be the easiest, so at the end of the day I'll probably PM you for those details.

Cheers all, gives me some food for thought.
