Pondering a quick (cheap) trip to Tokyo for a couple of days and one of the choices goes Syd to Melbourne
Arrival 8.05 am from Sydney and the departure from Melbourne is 9.20 onto HND
Having not yet had the chance to have a sticky beak at Melbourne 1st lounge is the time of 1 hour and 15 mins enough to have a look at it ?
Will be travelling with hand luggage only
Thanks

Assuming you get to International terminal and through immigration quickly and plane is on time you will get a few minutes. Last time immigration took ages. Luck of the draw.

You know already that 1:15 is a bit stupid.

Although MEL international is busy in the mornings, it's still pretty efficient. I've done it dozens of times in the mornings. 1:15 is enough provided you are actually in MEL!

The biggest concern is not the 1:15 transit time in MEL but if your arriving flight is delayed at all.

On one ticket you'll be protected but do you want to go through the hassle of it all?

@Austman I was hoping no checked luggage would help.
I would prefer an earlier flight down to Melbourne but the choice wasn't given and I want all on one ticket in case of delays

If booking a Qantas ticket, try the multi-city function. You'll often get other choices (especially longer but less "logical" connections) for the same price.

Given any bags would have been checked in at SYD going HLO makes no difference to your Melbourne transit. I don't think it is enough time, and certainly not enough time to enjoy F lounge time.

Definitely try a multi-city booking. Even separate tickets you'd probably be fine (in terms of being delayed), but the cost would likely be higher.

I thought I had to collect them and recheck in Melbourne?

Not on the way out of Australia. And assuming the same airline (or if there's an interlining agreement between carriers).

So for my trip in a couple of weeks LAX via bne the bags are checked in here in Sydney?
All on the same ticket
Sorry I havnt gone out via a different city before

Correct. The staff at check-in will confirm. They will say "Your bags have been tagged through to LA"

When returning to Australia, you have to collect your bags at the first port you arrive at. Do customs, then re-check them in (if travelling on a further domestic flight).

No worries. How much time do you have in Brisbane? And are you stopping at LAX, or flying on elsewhere straight-away?

To confirm, you've traveling Sydney to Tokyo via Melbourne?
With a day time departure to Tokyo from Melbourne, that suggests the QF flight.

You just want to look at the QF F lounge at MEL T2?
Depending on immigration at MEL, and an on time flight from SYD, you'd have maybe 20-30 minutes in the lounge before you'd need to board for Tokyo.

And the 2 flights to Tokyo from Melbourne (day time departure QF, night departure JL) both go to NRT, not HND. Only the evening NH and QF departures from SYD go to HND.

I mostly have to travel to another city before exiting Australia thanks to Qantas dropping international from Adelaide. If I want to fly with Qantas.

Brisbane is an 1 hour 20....stopping at L.A. for 4 days then onto new York for a couple of weeks

Thank you i prefer HND which was in my search but it did bring up NRT
I was hoping to get to the lounge as I havnt seen that lounge :)

If I want to fly with Qantas.

Indeed.

OT, but outside of SYD, MEL and to a lesser extent BNE - people in most cities (capitals and regionals) have to fly to another city to get a Qantas flight(s) to the majority of their destinations.

I can only think of Hobart and Adelaide as a capital city.
