Hi frequent flyers

My brother is flying from SIN - SYD (international) on Fri on SQ241 (check in luggage only).

The arrival time is stated as 5:55pm (SYD time).

We need to catch an internal domestic flight to BNE that night and I'm looking at the 9:05pm flight departing from SYD domestic.

Does anyone know how long it normally takes to get from SYD international to SYD domestic (taking into account non-Aussie having to clean customs, walk to Airtrain and into SYD domestic station)? I'm trying to decide whether to book the 9pm flight or fly out the next morning. I know there's always the risk of flight delays but assuming no delays, I would have thought the only uncertainty in the process is disembarking and customs? There is an 8pm departure but assume 2 hours is probably too risky.

Thanks in advance

K

You don't even need to catch the train. After you exit customs at SYD T1 with your suitcases turn right and follow the signs to the domestic transfer counters. You can check your bags in and get your boarding pass before catching the Qantas shuttle bus around to T3 and head to the boarding gate.

If you get to the domestic transfer desk in time you could always ask if they can get you on the earlier 2005 flight. I wouldn't think an 1800 arrival would be a very busy time to arrive however others who fly internationally into SYD on a regular basis may be able to off their experience.

Thanks all - very helpful. Have booked the 9pm (in case flight delay or customs queue muck things up) but may try the requesting an earlier flight option if we get there earlier.

2 hours should be fine. As long as the staff aren't on strike.

The transfer will be quick which ever method you take, the bus or the 2 min train ride with a max 10 min wait between trains.

On the other hand, customs may not be so fast.

On tight connections you can ask the customs people (usually in those little vests) to go to the front of the line. I don't know if its a policy but when I have asked nicely and shown my boarding pass they have always moved me to the front.
