Does any one know how early you can check in for Tasman flights from SYD to AKL, either at the kiosk or in person. I will have no baggage and ideally would like to check in at lunch time and go straight to the airport for a 1720 flight.

Alternatively they do so you must be checked in 90 minutes prior to departure, but could you get away with 60 minutes ?

Why they don't let you do this on line is beyond me.

My current understanding for Trans-tasman Qantas flights

Online (no checked luggage) - 24 hours before flight. Although you will need to get someone to sight your passport before you board
International Q Card Reader at Airport - 4 hours before flight (3 hours if doing bag drop)
Check in desk (no checked luggage) - same day if you can find an open check in desk
Check in desk (with checked luggage) - 3 hours before flight

Edit: I must still be in holiday mode. I answered for QF when OP was asking for NZ.

So you can do OLCI then surely and turn up as late as possible. The challenge you will have is being able to skip any queues so someone can sight the passport.

if you have no checked baggage just check in online, print your boarding pass then proceed straight through immigration when you get to the airport (they will accept the printed BP). then before boarding either go to the desk at the gate or in the lounge and get them to sight your passport (otherwise they'll pull you up when scanning your BP).

I didn't think Air NZ allowed you to check in online ? If this has been changed then that would be wonderful!

I guess some of us didn't notice this was posted in the Air NZ forum...
