That could present a few problems. I think that runway might be closed for a few days! Landing gear collapse? Who will be able to move it? Perhaps the Australian army.

Ouch.

Fairly old aircraft, wonder if repairable (economically speaking)??

Note that in the later photo that the main cargo door is open - I presume they unloaded and delivered the cargo to its destination? I doubt the aircraft will be economically repairable. Things also look very quiet around Henderson Field at the moment but I would not be surprised if the weather had something to do with that as well? The photos definately say - bring your brolly to me!

I'm on VA4169 on Thursday ....... then on a light aircraft to Noro Island ..'oh joy'.... status of the flight is good and it looks like today's VA4169 is in flight right now .....so Henderson must be back to 'normal' ......well as normal as it ever gets ...........

I think this bird will need some Tender Loving Care now!

One of the YBBN spotter group got a good picture of ZK-TLC - leaving BNE for Honiara .........looks tidy climbing out ....time will tell if it the last airborne pic I guess ..........

Gear sheared off - other pictures show thrust reverse deployed - plus the plane very much on the runway not rolling off - Would appear to be failure on landing when under reverse thrust.

Looks expensive - given the Henderson Field location ..... Thoughts ? An emergency training aid for the local services ?

I'm getting on VA 4169 in just over an hour ...... will have a look for the girl on landing ........

I believe some observers noted significant crosswind at the moment of landing, which would be a factor, of course the reliability of those observers is not great.

It's 'propped and parked' ...... not a sole anywhere near it when I saw it.

Who will be the lead accident investigation agency in Solomons? ATSB or other?

Had a look around: CAASI with assistance from atsb:

Investigation: AE-2014-015 - Technical assistance to the Civil Aviation Authority, Solomon Islands - Undercarriage collapse on landing - Boeing 737-300F - ZK-TLC - Honiara International Airport, Solomon Islands on 26 January 2014

On 26 January 2014, a Boeing 737-300F aircraft, registration ZK-TLC, was conducting freight operations from Brisbane, Qld. to Honiara, Solomon Islands. The right undercarriage collapsed during the landing on runway 24 at Honiara, resulting in undercarriage and inboard wing damage. There were no injuries to the three crew.

The Civil Aviation Authority, Solomon Islands (CAASI) is responsible for investigating this accident. As part of its investigation, CAASI has requested technical assistance from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) in the download and analysis of the flight data and coughpit voice recorders from ZK-TLC. In accordance with clause 5.23 of Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, the ATSB appointed an accredited representative to participate in the investigation and initiated an investigation under the Australian Transport Safety Investigation Act 2003.
