Hi All

I’m a long time lurker on this board, but with all the information I have found on it I’m now experiencing my first year as a WP (after joining frequent flyer in 1997 at age 11!) and on 1 June a classic award redemption in first class on QF1 to London.

Does anybody have recommendations on how early to arrive at the lounge? When do they stop serving breakfast ?

Any other recommendations on how to make the most of the first class experience in the lounge and on board?

Many thanks

Hi and welcome to AFF. You can get breakfast until midday, a shortened "all day" menu from 11am and the full "all day day" menu from 11.30ish (maybe midday?). If you ask nicely they'll probably rustle up something from the brekkie menu after it finishes but no guarantees. I'm not a breakfast expert as I'm usually there after midday.

You'll get a call from QF the day before to ask about spa treatments so go for one of those. As to how long you should spend in the F lounge then it's personal choice. The food and wine on board, if you drink alcohol, are great quality so I tend to keep my lounge dining and imbibing to a minimum if I'm departing in F and enjoy the lunch or dinner once in the air.

Seats 2A and 3A are my favourites but no seat is a bad one in First.

I'll second seat 3A as it has three windows and less foot traffic in the left aisle. As for the lounge, it is a personal choice and mine is to be there as long as possible. Have fun!

The biggest danger of F travel is overdoing it early and then not making the most of the rest ;)

I personally believe that QF offers one of the best sleeping experiences in any aircraft - which is great, but if you over-indulge in pre-flight alcohol or food you risk snuggling in and wakening just on landing - missing all the great service! At least with SYD-LHR you have multiple flights so can try (as I do) "party hard" on one, and then "recovery" on next. Each to their own though.

As alluded to in previous posts. Plan your day. Very little to eat and drink (alcoholic) the day before so you'll be good and hungry upon arrival. Allow lots of time to get there plus a little more for unexpected traffic.

I find the spa treatment quite enjoyable just before my flight so a booking an hour before is just the right time to depart the spa and prepare for the flight.

Straight into the pyjamas when issued and enjoy the experience.

Oh and feel free to wander around the plane to see how the other half lives while you walk off your on board meal.

Finally, a TR is always appreciated. There have been a couple of good videos of the QF F experience posted here so have a look and see what you might enjoy.

Happy travelling.

Welcome to AFF, Kathy!

Congrats on making Platinum and getting a F seat to LHR in Summer!

An F host should call so you can book a spa appointment if you're interested in that and then you can base the rest of your lounge time around that.

Personally I wouldn't overdo it in the F lounge at SYD. It's nice and all, but once you've had a massage, eaten a leisurely meal and relaxed a bit you could well be done with the waiting around aspect prior to a set of long flights. I'd maybe allocate 2.5ish hours? Obviously plan to arrive in plenty of time to allow for traffic and any other snafus along the way.

With the actual flights, now that they go via SIN I'd plan atround that with the timings ideal to stay up between SYD and SIN then basically aim to sleep through the night from SIN-LHR. That way one has a full "normal" day in SYD time, hopefully gets a good 8+ hours sleep and hopefully be prepared to arrive at the crack of dawn in London ready to take on the day wide eyed and bushy tailed.

With that in mind, I'd think to watch some movies, enjoy some food and the bubbles(or whatever your tipple is) on board to SIN. Maybe a couple of hours kip but not too much, enjoy the short break in SIN, perhaps walk a bit of just enjoy the lounge such as it is... then I'd reboard, hop into PJ's.. maybe have some supper if still hungry (doubt it :D ) or something to help sleep (I don't mind a baileys on the rocks myself) and get the bed made up. The new bedding is super comfy as others have said.. a vast improvement on the old and the PJ's are pretty good too and hpefully get decent sleep and wake up for brekky prior to arrival

and don't forget the AA arrivals lounge at LHR T3 you should be able to use as a QF F pax for a light breakfast snack(since you apparently like brekky :) ) and shower, freshen up before headed into London, or wherever you're headed for the day.

my 2 cents :)

If you really wanted to go early Qantas do check in all day. The car though (which you should book ) will only pick you up a max of 5 hours early.
Have an excellent time.. use all the perks!!
Also now a WP you will have access to the lounge even when not flying in 1st

oh yes I forgot CD for the europe flight. Nice! Yes.. absolutely!

Thanks all for the great tips.

I think I’ll try and stay awake for Sydney to Singapore and then sleep on the Singapore to London leg.

If anybody has any other suggestions/tips then let me know.
