TIGER Airways will target NSW holidaymakers with new routes and drastically discounted fares in a new push to increase its share of the state's lucrative tourism market.
Just 14 months after being grounded by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for posing a serious risk to airline safety, the low-cost carrier revealed it would begin flying between Sydney and Coffs Harbour from February.

The airline will operate up to five flights, with a capacity of 1400 seats, each week on the new route, and from tomorrow charge customers $120 for return tickets - $64 less than the cheapest Virgin airfares and $166 less than Qantas.
Tiger Airways Australia commercial director Carly Brear also apologised to customers who had been burned by the carrier's patchy safety and scheduling record in the past.
"This is the first step in a very focused direction for the business, as we expand and start to add new ports to the destinations we fly to," Ms Brear said.

Coffs harbour is nice ... but is it really a big plane destination?

Interesting move by the VA majority owned Tiger . I smell a reduction in VA services from the current 2/day to 1/day at some point . This will allow VA to redeploy either a E190 or 737 to other routes or expand to further destinations , whilst not signalling they are withdrawing from a route. If VA reduces then it will go along way to assisting Tiger in getting decent loads on an A320 .... Watch this space ........

I was half hoping to see the TT schedule with a flight in the early morning where Virgin used to have a flight and it was rather popular...and the tourists who want cheap flights I'm sure wouldn't mind leaving at such an hour, just as I'm sure the business market would happily see the return of some competition to that hour of the day...rather than a three flights on three airlines departing within ~an hour of each other - and in the middle of the day at that.

Nice theory, pity DJ don't have any stake in Tiger at the moment nor representation on the board.

may be trying to tap into the drivers market rather than cannibalise QF/VA

Doesnt stop them "talking" or collaberating behind closed doors , which happens in all businesses .

Would be good to see Tiger on MEL-CBR-MEL again, for no other reason than to slightly reduce the prices that DJ/QF currently charge
