Tiger today announced it will be setting up its third base in Brisbane, along with a swag of new routes:

SYD ADL eff 11 March
BNE ADL eff 11 March
BNE CNS eff 15 April
BNE DRW eff 15 April

Last time they did SYD ADL the timing suited me best. Might try them again if they get it right.

Timing of flights and also reliability of flights as well will be the key to winning some market share.

I would think not myself, I would imagine that TT will stay in the middle pier of BNE domestic only because the VA end is so congested with the building activity taking place at the VA part of the terminal.

By the way - what are they doing at the VA BNE domestic terminal? Seem like every 2nd gate/airbridge has construction going on at the moment?

But back on topic - some of those city pairs are quite common for me. The BNE-DRW flights should put some downwards pressure on prices of flights in and out of DRW so I imagine that JQ, VA and QF won't like that......

Can't search flights on the site at the moment. "....heavy traffic."

I would have personally preferred VA add more capacity themselves on that route but no looks like they have lobbed the Terrible Tiger on it instead.... Bummer.

Long time on the ground in PPP.

I assume it probably relates to available slots in SYD?

Are these new slots in SYD or is something else being dropped?

It is only 1.5 hours.

It could be due to small staff numbers there and lack of infrastructure. There is only one fuel tanker at PPP and from memory it is quite small. Maybe 30 minutes of extra fat in case the tanker needs to fill up twice?

Yes, it's not hours and hours but their usual turns are about half that.

You may well be right re: tanker or staffing.

I would not be surprised if its a meal break for the crew, its likely to be their second sector, this also makes the most of the fact the ground crew need to be rostered a minimum three hours, given its a solo flight.

I confess to knowing nothing about running an airline but I can't understand why Virgin would start Tiger on routes that it services. Doesn't that just white-ant VAs revenue. I could understand if the routes were loss making for VA to turn it over to its LCC. Or is this something to do with the "capacity war" that QF and VA seem intent on continuing?

Virgin caters for a different market to TT, as reflected in the timings, and they want to capture the price sensitive VFR dollars via TT.

So if you're late or refused boarding with TT, you pay extra & fly VA?

Or you fly TT one way & decide you can't handle them & then decide to pay the extra to go VA on the way back?
