Might be OT but didn't want to start a new thread. I have flights on two separate tickets coming up - EK flight to MEL (QF booking) then on to NZ (QF booking, 4 hours after arrival of the EK flight).

Is there any way to link the bookings? (I suspect not). Or will I need to ask when I check-in to my EK flight that they tag me all the way through? I have given myself enough time, but boy it will be a PITA if I have to collect my bag in Melbourne.

Thanks for any advice.

Did you get your QF boarding pass as well?

Hi Oz, collected boarding pass at LAX Qantas First lounge, ensured AA baggage tag number added into our QF reloc. The experienced AA person indicated they do not interline on separate tickets, must have been the tears flowing done my ugly face changed her mind. Blessing to walk directly to lounge and avoid LAX TSA.
Melbourne airport delivered a fast 30 minute deplaning to kerbside given apron parking meant bused to terminal, express invitation helped otherwise add 30 minutes due to long queue.

I mentioned immediatelty after handing over passports we were connecting if there is anyway to forward bags to final destination. Have you asked QF to consolidate bookings. Good luck Kermatu.

There is no way to 'consolidate' bookings. They can put a note in, but probably not worth the time and effort to make the call to QF given the wait times. Just as easy to see if they can do it at check-in.

You were lucky! AA wouldn't even through check bags on an AA->AA award for me last month. And the separate bag limits applied even though dom->int. Was ok as I had nothing better to dio during the time but would have been troublesome if there had been major delays.

When I made my booking (over the phone) the agent mentioned putting in a note but that it wouldn't have the effect I desired. I might ask the P1 team but yep, reckon it's down to helpful EK check-in. Thanks both for responding.

For some reason I saved $700 by doing the NZ leg separately, so if collecting bags and re-checking is what I need to do, so be it.

My through check bags experience of EK checkin has been excellent ranging to extraordinary. Including FZ. Always comes down to the vagaries of the EK check in person but they mostly regard QF bookings (and status) as equivalent to EK. Good luck, suspect you'll be right.

Cheers skip

So good news. On check-in in Dubai the agent was very good, just asked to see my onward ticket. The connecting flight was in just under 24 hours' time so we thought it'd be ok. Took him about 5 minutes. Bag was done quickly but getting my BP for the final sector seemed to cause some problems. He consulted a colleague and made a call, then re-started and made it work. His attitude from the start was positive and "can-do". Very happy.

Might have helped that I was flying F so there were more staff than pax at check-in, so no rush or pressure.
