I'm trying to book the business class status points run for W.A. flyers (Singapore to Hong Kong via Bangkok and return on CX) but the fare prices that I'm getting from the CX website make it very unnattractive - Singapore Dollars $2000+ I'm looking either 9/10 April or 29/30 April as possible dates. I thought it might be the dates so I tried a few in May and got similar prices.

What am I doing wrong?

CX have rejigged it a bit, they are still there but how you get them has changed and usually its only one flight a day and its direct. It has been released as a special for April for Singapore Visa card holders.

Damn that's bad news - I need 270 points by the end of April for Platinum - finally got my work plans for April locked down and was going to use some spare days to do QF PER - SIN Y and then SIN - BKK - HKG return on CX in J then back to PER on QF again. If anyone has some other ideas on cheap ways to get some SC's please feel free to PM me!

TPE-HKG-SIN with CX is presently being offered in I class at quite reasonable prices

use J* Asia to get to TPE.....

Fred

That does look good. TPE-HKG-SIN-HKG-TPE for about $460AU. If my maths is right, I make it to be 240 status credits so that works out to $1.91/SC. Got to be one of the best value out there!

At the risk of sounding ignorant. How do you get to TPE at a reasonable cost :?:

I guess Jetstar from SIN, however overall it's probably only great value for those who actually have a need to be in TPE.

I don't know if the cost would be considered 'reasonable' but maybe Air Asia X PER-KUL/KUL-TPE? It could be done for under $1K return.

I did mention J* but perhaps that only works exPER. Award flights also come to mind. The TPE-HKG-PER D class fares are also interesting but I'm already committed elsewhere and TPE-HKG-SIN D tied with a SIN-PER in QF Y is a lot cheaper.

The fares ex TPE are cheaper to a lot of places not just Australia. At the moment AA ex TPE-->USA is a whole lot cheaper than exSIN (perhaps a problem with release of codeshare flights?)

Cathay is not as useful in that their tickets have shorter expiry periods than QF but as long as you plan to travel regularly, the positioning flight is (or can be made into) a one way flight. And I have been told that Taiwan is actually an interesting place to visit..

YMMV

Another idle thought.

If you have the points to burn there's some anyseat award flights in J for PER-BNE return in April for 84,252 pts (less 7,854 earn = 76,398) for 160SC, eg Sat 24 April dep 12.30 QF 598 ret 19.50 QF 767. Another is dep April 29 23.30 QF 652, ret Apr 30 8.20 QF 589.

If my maths are right that's $4.77/SC.

Nowhere near as good as that TPE flight, but 2 of these would do it.

Only if you play the game Qantas wants us to play and value your points at a measly 1c a point. QFF points are worth a lot more than that (at least 2c a point) especially when used for Oneworld RTW awards or upgrades to premium cabins....

On the evening of the 28th I can pickup QF67 PER - HKG arriving into HGK at 06:05 on the 29th, I'm going to have to check the rest of the flights to get HKG - TPE - HKG - SIN on the same day, then SIN - HKG - TPE on the 30th then that should get me enough points.

Many thanks for all of your help so far! It's much appreciated.

Do you guys realise how dangerous it is letting a photographer loose in the camera and electronics shops in SIN and HKG?:D:D:D

What makes you think TPE will be LESS interesting?:mrgreen:

Have a good trip.

Remember round trips to PER from somewhere else (on QF) are a lot cheaper than exPER.;)

TPE is not great for electronics shopping, unless you know where to go, unlike HKG they are not set up for the tourist with shops everywhere, a few years ago it took me forever to find a PSU for a laptop despite it being a Taiwanese brand ( I had left the charger at home and was there for a week).

It looks like I will have to make a trip to Singapore on Thursday or Friday, back Sunday so I could make that PER -SYD - SIN return which will then mean that I have to only make 150 SC's in the last 2.5 days of the month.
