Doing some Tom Sawyer/Huckleberry Finn stuff with my 5yo grandson this morning along the bank of the Swan River near my place. I’ve previously posted on the commemorative park for the historic Maylands Aerodrome in the Maylands Foreshore Park.

This time we roamed along the riverbank and into the adjacent golf course. It’s on a large river flat and is the site of the old runways.

It looks like all the tee markers carry an historical aviation reference. I don’t golf, but maybe one day I’ll walk the course and scope all the markers.

Perth Stadium in the W background.

I used to rather enjoy playing a round there, a fairly decent public course along with the old Burswood course plus Wembley.

Various offices today

Leading an intrpid history group out in the field ( yes, it rained! We are a tough lot

Looks like a standard UK hike ;)

I've seen some really cool rainbows up in the clouds from the plane on my flights over the last few weeks. Never seen those before, either!

Day 2 of my history group excursion to the area where I live on the east coast. Weather much better.

First to a convict station c1845. A cell, abt 1m wide by 2m long. Just enough room to lie down on the stone ground.

Another perilous river crossing:

No matter the situation, rain or shine, home or bush, historians always enjoy a good morning tea! Scones, jam & cream, slices, bikkies and sausage rolls.

We moved onto one of the old houses in the area, currently being restored. A 'renovator's delight':

And on the other end of the scale, this charmer from a similar time, but has been in the hands of some long established families:
