Another PERfect day yesterday to be back out in the field sowing some more canola breeders' trials. The site is near Boddington, about 1.5h drive SE of PER.

The site, within a cooperating farmer's earlier-sown canola crop, is at an interesting location on the E fringe of the Darling Escarpment, where the rockier laterite soils and jarrah/marri forest give way to more gentle rolling hills and the W fringes of the Grain Belt and the more cultivable soils. Bauxite mining has been going on throughout the area since the 1960's, feeding several refineries (http://www.australianminesatlas.gov.au/aimr/commodity/bauxite.html), while the whopping Boddington gold mine is nearby (Boddington Gold Mine - Wikipedia).

The runs at this site were much longer than last week's: 24 plots over 144m. We sowed about 60 runs. Again, the GPS did the driving along runs; I just switched on the GPS-controlled seed dropping mechanism and lowered the tynes at the start of each run, turned the tractor back for the next run and controlled the ground speed.

Just follow the lines, baby. :)

About half the site was sown to other trials a little earlier in the season. Canola plants are out and away. The farmer's crop was sown even earlier and is coming along nicely.

As we wound up for the day, with impeccable timing some rain clouds appeared from the W. PERfect...:)

A tidy day; office-office (very near PER, BTW) 0700-1830h.

A recent office was the Governor of Tasmania launching my book ... (pardon the purple hues - its mainly a music venue and the pics accentuate the colour a bit).

MC warms up the crowd:

The Governor doing a great job:

Then we had a 'Q&A'. Being grilled by a former Professor and Head of the School of Law at UTAS wasn't something I was looking forward to, but she made it very entertaining. $2,000 of sales on the day got the book off to a good start.

The pain went after a few minutes and the tingling went after an hour. So far so good and no sore arm or any side effects. Fingers crossed it stays like that!

Goodness ... I've never heard of anyone having pain and/or tingling immediately after the injection.
