Thornwick Bay and Flamborough Head - a nice coastal walk with smugglers caves and again, we had pretty decent weather!

There were some pretty interesting rocks around the place (@RooFlyer) - although getting out to some of the caves required quite a bit of scrambling over rocks.

If you look on the left, they're the rocks we spent a fair bit of time navigating. Not as easy as it looks!

The lighthouse at Flamborough Head
2021-04-17 14.23.07.jpg

An old school lighthouse, no lamp in this one. This chalk tower was built in 1674 and after its success, were then granted additional patents from Charles II to build lighthouses at Farne Islands, Cromer, Lowesoft and Portland Bill. Due to its construction of brilliant white chalk it was visible from afar on both land and sea.

The view from our Lincolnshire office, do you know how hard it was to find actual Lincolnshire sausages in Lincolnshire.......? Like finding hen's teeth! Less dramatic scenery but still nice / different. It's more agricultural, less industry etc. also means the buildings tend to be better kept with not getting covered in soot from the coal factories, power stations etc. We walked along the GMT trail and of course I did the obligatory stand on either side of the line so I could be both ahead of time and behind time ;)

We were staying just near Louth, it had a pretty amazing cathedral there. The spire is one of the tallest in the UK, interesting for such a small place. Most churches we came across in Lincolnshire seemed to have spires, so maybe that's their thing.

If you wished to leave prayers and condolences for the Queen and the Royal Family you could.....

Unfortunately we couldn't climb the spire, as there's a Peregrin Falcon nesting there which is about to give birth.

Next stop was Horncastle, just a small market town but some interesting architecture around and good to explore for an hour or two.

Our final office for the day was Tattershall, unfortunately the castle is closed and access to the grounds is included in that so photos from afar and we took a stroll around town instead.

A strange looking flower....... does anyone know what this is?

The grounds of the castle, and the various buildings in there. A double moat too, apparently. This is a rare fortified brick castle. It was the first thing I noted when I saw it, not made of huge blocks of stone like usual so we thought it must have just been for living. Once we made it to the info sign though it confirmed that it was indeed still a fortified castle.

And..... some knackered swans after doing a little bit of mating with each other, first time we've seen swans mate!
2021-04-19 14.28.23.jpg

There was a really loud roar of planes, felt very close. Turns out RAF Coningsby was <1 mile away and Typhoon Eurofighter jets take off and land from there. Gee they're noisy! We saw an old spitfire plane in the sky too, it looks like they operate a few old warplanes so we were grateful to have stumbled across that by accident. No photos as a phone camera doesn't zoom well enough!

Last Friday we took the grandkids for an outing on buses, trains and the Transperth ferry across the Swan River from Elizabeth Quay to South Perth. It was a bit cloudy that morning.

Elizabeth Quay with the Ferry Terminal on the left.

The Ritz-Carlton and The Towers at Elizabeth Quay. There is still building going on all around this area

Looking back from the South Perth foreshore. Lots of people use the ferry to visit the Zoo.

From inside the ferry - they run on a 15 minute schedule during the day and are covered by the normal Transperth card - free for us oldies with Seniors Cards most of the time.

A PERfect day for a bike ride in Kings Park this morning.

Much of the bike paths meander through the natural bush and don't just parallel the roads.

The boab that was trucked down from the Kimberley in 2008 is impressive and impressively located as part of the botanic garden that has areas representing various botanical provinces throughout WA.
