.. would you choose this place,

Or this place

or this place?

I grew up just along the road a bit ... Small weatherboard place. And I still couldn't afford these places ( but v cheap for Sydney or Melbourne.)

Oh no, much too flash - I mean coarse, new money-ish for me.

It's the Aquijo: Aquijo (yacht) - Wikipedia

Owned by a Norwegian billionaire. Just plain common, y'know?

I often look at the geology and wonder how brutal and chaotic a time lapse video of the evolution of Gaia might appear.. 'twas clearly not an easy birth….

Today's office target, with the route indicated (give or take some hand-shake while drawing it ;)) Starting at the left, at a place called 'The Springs', looping up below the 'Organ pipes', then down & back across. Abt 12km. This is another attempt to to claw back my youth - we used to scramble all over this thing when we were growing up ...

Well1.jpg

The tracks have been refurbed recently and easy to navigate, but that first 5km is constantly up!

Well2.JPG

Look left from the track ... hmm, something has carved its way through the bush up there:

Well3.JPG

Look right - ah ha. That'll do it.

Token plant shot for the botanists like @JohnM . I must confess to being partial to Richea spp. Given encouragement I will relate the story of my field botany course at Uni, where we were charged with compiling a pressed native plant collection over 3 days in the park. 12 students, National Park, plants needed ... what could possibly go wrong? Locusts ain't in it.

But back to the interesting bits. The Organ Pipes - dolerite columns:

Well6.JPG

Oh, all right. Some fa_us crept into the pic below, 'Gondwana' vegetation, as also found in Patagonia, for the benefit of @juddles .

Well7.JPG

Nice views, of course. Sandy Bay to the right, CBD and Tasman bridge, 'northern suburbs' to the left:

Well8.JPG

Looking north up the Derwent:

At the far right of the first image, you come to 'The Chalet', which sounded encouraging. But ... bugger. No barista coffee.

Well10.JPG

Then it was down and back across to the start. Three hours, 13 km and a glass of Riesling when I got back to where was staying!! (No, not just one, either ...)
