The view from my "office"

QF F lounge would be a no brainer, but I believe it's closed still?

I thought the AA Flagship lounge at JFK was nothing special. Nice lounge and all but on par with the QF J lounge at LAX, hence my question.
It is my personal opinion. I prefer the AA FL environment over the Qantas First Lounge to await my flight. TBH I prefer the oneworld business lounge over the First lounge to await a flight. Food is better in the QF First facility but that's the beginning and the end of it.

Here s a photo from one of my office views from the LAX First lounge:

The tasting plate was a biylt meh .
Fish was good.

I've never visited the QF J lounge so can't compare, sorry! Have only ever used the F lounge which has always been good.

The food in the AA Flagship lounge at T4 was varied ... but luke warm so not great. I'd prefer the QF Flounge any day!

I didn't spot any celebs there ... but on my JFK-LHR flight Thandiwe Newton - IMDb sat in front of us ...... and had multiple attempts to join the mile high club in the new BA Club Suite with her much younger travelling party ....... Before we saw that happening we thought it was her son!
Pictorial evidence (without said 'kid' clambering all over her) of said "celeb", most of you might know her from her starring role in the BA safety video.

It is indeed hence why we went to the AA Flagship lounge. Sorry I can't help more!

A 100 or so k's north of Geraldton near Port Gregory is the Lynton Convict Hiring Depot - "the most intact example of a regional convict depot in Western Australia". Built in 1853 - 1856 and then almost immediately abandoned. It has a very strange connection to the musical "The King and I". My Great, Great Grandfather was an Irish born British Army Sergeant who sailed out with the convicts around 1860. He was enrolled in what was called The Pensioner Guards.

The Depot Building - designed to sleep 80 convicts.

Coalseam Conservation Park - about 130 Km inland from Geraldton. Luckily the coal proved uneconomic to mine and the area remains relatively untouched.

I've been through that region many times, but somehow never got to go to Coalseam. It's been on my to-do list for a while.

With the cracking rains coming down right now across the region, I reckon I'll be aiming to be there in about August when the wildflowers should be spot-on. :)

Well, phoar, just phoar .... :p not the interpretive sign but the coal! (Permian - same as in Tas).

I'm going the Geraldton in a few months with a day to spare. Going to head east to my old stamping ground, Mt Magnet; might come back via this. What are the roads like?

As far as I know the Geraldton - Mt Magnet Road is sealed all the way but used by heavy vehicles. The bit I travelled on from Geraldton is in good condition with a number of overtaking lanes. However there were also a lot of Road Trains around taking wheat to the port.

From Mullewa to the Coalseam Park it is 60 km with a fair bit of unsealed road. However the unsealed section was in very good condition. After Coalseam instead of returning to Mullewa you could take a 30 km road to Mingenew. I know that there are unsealed sections but I didn't drive on it. There is a camp site with Picnic Tables and Toilets situated near the old coal workings.

This is what most of the unsealed section of the main road was like. You could scoot along very happily.

The park is on both sides of the Irwin River and if there is heavy rain around the crossing would be problematic. There is a bitumen on the river bed but it has some erosion - not enough to worry a 2005 Statesman.

Some more coal cough for you.

The Geraldton-Mt Magnet road has been sealed all the way for many years.

It is used by a 24/7 constant stream of road trains carting minerals from around Mt Magnet to Geraldton port. (The old narrow gauge rail line is long gone). It's noticeable, certainly around Yalgoo, that the west-bound (S side) lane is deteriorated in parts compared with the N-side lane because it's carrying the loaded trucks. But no dramas. Just rent a car that you can give a bit of stick to to get around those suckers. 😜
