I wish airlines would sort this out, I read about this sort of cough all the time.

My partners relatives were booked in business using Mileage Plus miles from MEL to visit us in SIN on SQ 248. This has now changed timing due to its extension to WLG. As a result SQ automatically booked them on SQ 238 which is leaving about 3 hours earlier than their original schedule, which will make it difficult.

Called SQ to see if they could put them on SQ 228 - about 3 hours later than original schedule. No we must to call UA.

Called UA, no need to call SQ

Called SQ, yes they can open up seats on SQ 228, but UA need to request that, as they issued the tickets. Get UA to call us.

Called UA, no we will not call SQ - we don't do that.

Aaagh plan B is to do conference call with both parties!

Wish there were easy processes for this sort of stuff.

Good luck with that!

I've been caught up with those schedule changes too, but it has worked out to my advantage, sort of. Flying SIN-CBR, my flight is now 11 hours later (meaning a hotel stay in SIN), but at least it's on a half-decent aircraft (77W).

You win some, you lose some...

Something screwy going on with the first of UA agents you spoke to by the sound of it.

The standard procedure is, as SQ states, for UA to try and fix it or, if no award seats, for UA to send through the request to SQ to open up inventory.

UA has done this for me in the past.

The second agent is correct however, they don't usually call the other airline. The inventory control department will need to review the matter and release a seat on the other flight. This is usually done by email (or however else they send messages through to each other). It can take a couple days though.
