Ade thanks for going to the trouble of doing the searches

You are welcome mate and good luck with your status run :)

Melbourne in J looks good just for me which will be enough status credits.

Yup, and you can do it in a day. ex BNE after brekkie, lunch @ MEL, back to BNE for dinner :)

Don't know how would sell that to the wife!

lol 🤣

Elevate return for around $380 each for 80 status credits for the two of us.

That's cool, Look at the ITA Matrix and see if you can sneak a quick diversion to get that remaining 4 SC. Unless you are certain that you'd get 4 from FlyBuys

Now looking at Cairns. Elevate return for around $380 each for 80 status credits for the two of us.

Would then rely on fly buys for the remaining 4 status credits

If the trip down to the Gold Coast from Brisbane isn't too difficult then Coolangatta to Melbourne via Sydney or Canberra in Elevate gives you 60SC return per person for around $380 per person with a promo code.

Flying OOL-SYD-MEL then direct MEL-BNE (or vice versa) would net you 100SC between the two of you if flying 4 legs is a bit much.

Thanks KLM.

Would never have thought of doing something like that.

I am warming to Ade's suggestion of a lunch in Melbourne on my own. I am a MCC member so a lunch on a Friday in the Committee Room at the MCG sounds good. Any one care to join me?

Will post details of my condition after I tell the wife!

Damn, that would be a great lunch @moffat39 - as a member of the QCC and dining regularly in the Bradman Room, I’d love to see the MCG and Committee Room. The only Friday that I’m in MEL (in Nov), I’m at a Conference :(

QF that's a shame. It is a great experience to dine in the committee room. Have only done it once before and took guests from England who had a great time.

Still undecided about where to go for the status run. Will wait for the specials tomorrow night to see if any bargains.

For those interested in the MCC Committee Room dining experience:

As an MCC member, you and your guests are able to enjoy lunch Monday to Friday in the inner sanctum of the MCC Committee Room.
In the heart of the Members Reserve, the Committee Room features spectacular views towards the hallowed turf and an exceptional range of paintings, photographs and iconic elements depicting the MCG’s long and proud history.

So next time you are looking for a place to lunch, come and enjoy the surrounds of the magical MCG accompanied by only the best food, wines and service.

Hi all,

My gold “review date” is 14 Jan. I need 170 status points to retain gold (have flown the 4 sectors needed).

That might seem like a lot to some but I generally achieve a chunk of it with quick trips but then the rest is pretty easily achievable with a couple of well thought out trips with my ten year old daughter whom I pool with.

A change in circumstances means we (her and I) will probably do only one more trip to OOL between now and Jan 14 so I’ll make sure we go via SYD or CBR. That could get us there alone if we go 25 SC point per leg routes rather than 15 SC per leg but the plan was for that to be a Xmas/NY trip and that’s a fairly high $ for SC time of year.

However before I got too carried away on status runs, and which fares to get for the MEL to OOL trip that I want to book ASAP, I thought I saw somewhere that you don’t “lose your gold” immediately with Velocity and you do/can somehow end up with another few months grace (an offer of status/status extension or something maybe? Fly buys offer? Virgin offer versus third party?).

If Velocity do send some kind of extension offer as standard and don’t really cut you off on your “review date” that would be ideal because there’s often SC offers around February and I’ll be doing more travel in the months after my review date.

And does anyone have some route ideas?
Someone mentioned on this thread that a wonderful person/people made and contributed to a spreadsheet with various status run values awhile back?

But before I go booking tickets, do I even NEED to do the mad dash for SC? What’s going to happen after my “review date” if I haven’t reached my target? And is maxing a single OOL trip going to be the way to go? What are people’s thoughts/ideas?

Over to you, brains trust...

MM

No, even though there is a review period, if you don't requalify (either by SC&flights or get comped [when 'close']) then you need to earn the full initial qualification amount in a 365 day period. i.e.Lose WP then you need to earn another 1000 SC's to get it back.

Hi everyone,

My review date to retain gold is 22nd of december and I currently need 50sc but more importantly need to fly 4 sectors.
Does anyone know of any cheap status runs, preferably from Newcastle but sydney as well that would get me over the line?
I was considering just letting it fall back to silver but with moving to America in the new year for work I will be doing a few trips back and forwards and need gold to have a chance at upgrades to business class.
Any advice appreciated

Struggling to find a one-stop, same day return ex-ntl seems to be tricky.

If you are willing to risk a 40 minute connection in Canberra on separate tickets, you can do NTL-BNE-CBR-BNE-NTL in one day for $530 on elevate.
(I personally wouldn't be willing).

Indeed 4 sectors and a same day return seems pretty difficult ex-NTL.

On some days you can do NTL-MEL-CBR-BNE-NTL all in one day, in elevate on one ticket. 4 sectors & 60SC for around the $480 mark.

Hey guys, I'm looking for 60+ SC to hit gold ex MEL.

All sectors are covered just need the 60 SC... any ideas on runs? Weekend away to GC or similar would be nice.

How much you looking to spend?
Gold Coast for $575 on a Freedom fare will get you 60SC’s or Business Saver for $1100 will get you 120SC’s.
Some not bad prices to AKL which could also be a good weekend away. $900 in Bus Saver for 160SC’s

Hi all,
The Double SC offer with VA has come at a nice time but I need your assistance with the best flights to book to maintain Gold. Can be a status run if need be or can make it a holiday across a weekend. Here are some details.

My review date is 26 Jan (Australia Day) and I need 177 SC before then, essentially meaning I need 90 SC in a return trip or 45SC in 2 trips. I currently live in SYD having moved from BNE and will be making the journey back to Bris at least twice before 26 Jan. Again, happy to try earn the SC on these trips or do a status run. No Points pooling available for me.

Dates I'll be heading back to BNE:
21 Dec - 5 or 6 Jan for Xmas Period.
10/11/12 Jan Return Trip

Open to other weekends if there are some deals on that I don't know about. Also aware that there are some 15% of J class codes going around which may also make things cheaper.
You guys have helped me immensely in the past and am hoping you may be able to again on this occasion :)
Cheers,

Any suggestions for the best budget option to attain 158 SCs before Dec 9 to hit gold. I am based out of Mel and will prefer any same day itinerary if possible. With current Double SC offer , wanted to understand the cheapest option to hit the 160SC mark.

Appreciate your time and efforts.

Hi all
Is someone able to confirm my maths please

18 Jan SYD - AKL via OOL for $491.93 with a discount code in discount J.
This would net the following SC’s
SYD - OOL = 50 SC’s
OOL - AKL = 80 SC’s
= 130 SC’s

if done in Double SC’s Promotion this would net 260 SC’s for $491.93 = $1.89 / SC!!!
Is this right? Hahaha

That's a good price!

I need 250 before 29th Dec to for platinum (from SYD). Any hot tips taking advantage of the double SCs?

thanks

edit: I could drag a family member along for family pooling if it was economical to do so.

take that flight to AKL if based in SYD. Otherwise check it from others. These sale fares seem to be going for the same price across multiple dates.
