The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Do they let you upgrade flights for trips occurring after your membership tier expire? (for example, say plat expire in June and I want to upgrade a trip due in Dec)
You would have a soft landing to gold so you would still have status in December

Re: Need 4 DJ sectors and 130 SCs by Sept 1

Easiest way would be to put an extra sector in between lax-JFK. You should be able to do this on the same ticket for very little extra cost. Perhaps via sfo outbound and bos inbound?
Else go shop at Coles. I think they have double sc earn this month, so just spend$1000

Hi folks, I need 280 SC's by the end of June and was thinking of a trip to Asia (obviously via Singapore) - any suggestions? Any advice much appreciated!

J to SIN and back (assuming you're not in Perth) will get you 240. So tack on any connector to any other Asian destination of your choice and you're there.

Thanks deva22!

If you want specific recommendations (from anyone) you'll need to post your home port, budget, more specific times (if applicable), and preferred destinations if more than one (i.e. there's a good deal to Europe from HKG on Etihad in J right now)

Yes, quite so - all other issues being variable (re $$ I would of course like the best bang for buck!), the one fixed point is my home port, Sydney.
Are there any promo codes available for international flights ATM?

Some of the codes listed on this thread work for international. My favourite status run value is SYD>LAX>anywhere in the USA>LAX>SYD in W on DL (comfort+) which can be had for <$2k often.

Yes of course. The J fares to SIN make it very unappealing - isn't the better option to fly Singapore Airlines SYD-SIN-HKG in flexisaver Y, which will be $1,095 and will net 200 SC's?

I'd expect flexi-saver SQ Y to be your best and cheapest option. You could try and have a stopover in SIN on the return and book a short SIN-BKK or similar return on SQ or MI to get your extra 40 SC's needed.

Hi Everybody,

I may be in the position later in the year where I have to try and maximise my status credits to maintain status and was wondering what the best way is to search for indirect flights to help with this? Am thinking of a potential MEL - SYD - BNE -CNS instead of flying direct to try and maximise segments. However on the velocity website it does not show such options. if I try on other third party websites such as Skyscanner it shows me these options but there is no clear information on the fare type.

Hoping that someone may be able to assist?

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

First time poster here, but long time reader! Thanks to everyone for their contributions on here, I've learnt a lot!

So I've got a few weeks up my sleeve before my Gold review, and I need about 140SC, and want to do most of it in a return trip. I'm based in SYD, but considering this:

SYD-MEL Elevate: 15SC
MEL-OOL vis SYD BC: 110SC
OOL-SYD Elevate: 15SC

Total: 140SC works out to about $1000

Have I worked that out right? Do you think this is the quickest (and cheapest) way to make up 140SC - albeit a bit boring I know.

My last question is about one way miles: are they counted per sector or the total of the trip? (only because it would net me 30 more SC if MEL-OOL via SYD was counted as Zone 2)

Thanks!!

I've never flown 3 sectors using the VA booking system and not sure if it can handle it. Either try to use a TA who understands multi-sectors. Alternatively grab a promo code from that thread here and look at Elevate fares MEL/BNE/CNS.

Your calcs look right but I agree about it being a boring bunch of sectors. Perhaps change the MEL/SYD/OOL to MEL/BNE/CNS (Elevate) and then CNS/SYD (Elevate) - unless there are better J fares. Haven't priced them.

MEL/OOL via SYD in flex can be about the cheapest and easiest $/SC earn for a domestic route.

Plus it is less than 5k velocity to upgrade each segment.

hey all,

also first time poster and a recent lurker.
been introduced to AMex and points and now also got the free gold velocity membership so trying to keep gold status.
im currently in Auckland for 5 months so will be doing from flights from here.
was about to book the free return flight on Jetstar for $200-NZ but to the Goldy and then realised obtaining the gold status would be better.
was hoping to get back to the Sunshine Coast in August in time for a golf match and also within the 3 months to get the 80 SC.
whats the best route to achieve these points?
AUK>BRIS
BRIS>SUNNY
or maybe flying though Sydney for extra miles with a connected flight?
unfortunately its just under the 1500 miles from NZ to Bris for extra points.
and I noticed Air New Zealand (velocity partner) also has a direct flight to Sunshine Coast, would I receive the same SC with them?
even if I fly domestically in NZ?
just trying to get my head around this.
thanks 4 any tips

Singapore Airlines has some really well priced flights to Asia at the moment. For example, Shanghai return from Sydney for an incredible $492. The promotions only seem to apply to economy saver tickets which have a fare class of K.

Do I understand correctly that this would still equate to 80 status credits with Virgin?

SYD - SIN (K) = 20 SC
SIN - PEK (K) = 20 SC
PEK - SIN (K) = 20 SC
SIN - SYD (K) = 20 SC

Grand total 80 SC or $6.15 per status credit.
