The Velocity Status Run Master thread

CGK-SIN-HKG return will get you 240SC for around the $1100 mark in J.

Can I please get another hint o_O? I’ve spent a couple of hours on SQ, Expedia and Webjet and the cheapest fares I can get are nearly double that.
I will only have Friday evening/weekends free so was hoping to do CGK-SIN on Friday night and the rest on Saturday. Even midweek fares don’t seem to be any cheaper. Is this one of those times to use a (shock horror) travel agent?

Any dates in mind?

Yes :) The only dates I have free is July 13 (after hours; working before that) - July 14/15; would prefer to be back to CGK by night July 14, or midday July 15 at the latest.

Any assistance will be most gratefully received :)

I don’t think you will have much luck with those dates. You will have to be flexible with dates/times to get the price down substantially

SQ seem to have a 24 hour requirement otherwise they charge a premium i.e. same flights are about double if within 24 hours.
Hence can get you out Fri evening, gets there Sat midday, but you need to come back 24 hours after. Thus, can get you cheap flight business return then around $1200, but needs to leave Sun afternoon and won't get back till 7 a.m . Mon morning.

Thanks, good to know. I wasn't anything very far with either return or multi city tries. I'm restricted with when I can travel. Not hopeful but there are far worse runs than in SQ J and in HKG/SIN lounges...

The lowest fares (getaway) under 750 miles earn just 5 SC these days.

you can do Launceston on the 27th for $105 each way, a total of $210 return earning 5 SC outbound and 5 Sc inbound way - with double SC that totals 20.

Elevate earns 10 SC @$130 each way.

Sorry to quote an older post, but we kinda need to go to Hobart & I could do with a few more points to comfortably retain gold...

Is an elevate fare (for < 750 mile flights) 10 SC or 15SC? I read the table as either 5, 15 or 25 SC for economy.
I hate the way virgin don’t align their fare names with the labels on the earn table.

TIA!

Some more Delta runs West Coast.

SFO-SAN via LAX $113us 60SC (Comfort+)
SFO-LAS via LAX $112us 60SC (Comfort+)
LAS-PHX via LAX $101us 60SC (Comfort+)

Play your cards carefully it is most certainly possible to go from Silver to Platinum for less than $1k flying Delta Domestically or from Gold for even less.

I plan to do some Mileage Runs on the US East Coast in July.

Hi folks, trying to upgrade my SC knowledge base and have run in to this scenario which I can't seem to crack for a SYD via MEL to NAN then NAN via BNE to SYD in Business. The flight has 4 unique segments and I believe the Domestic portion counts at the International rate.

VA808 SYD-MEL in Business Saver -> 40 SC
VA185 MEL-NAN in Business Saver -> 80 SC

VA176 NAN-BNE in Business Saver -> 80 SC
VA978 BNE-SYD in Business Saver -> 40 SC

So I see it as 240 SC and because of Family Pooling that puts it to 480SC (2 tickets are being purchased).

A poster on another forum suggested that the earn would be 80SC total for both legs as the total miles for SYD - MEL - NAN is 2,842 miles and that the 2 sectors are not counted separately. I think I may need a PHD to figure this out!

You are correct. The flights have separate numbers and will be counted individually for SCs and Eligible Sectors. Points for the domestic sectors will be earned on a per mile basis rather than per $

Its just if you book a VA domestic flight you earn points (5 points/$ plus status bonuses) based on the cash cost of the ticket. As there is no separate cash cost of a domestic flight connecting to an international itinerary, you base the points on the mileage (2 per mile for business)

Just got an email with a status challenge to hit platinum. 2 weeks to get 64 SC. Anyone have any hints for status run from Adelaide to achieve? Have travel planned for july and august but none for the next 2 weeks unfortunately.

ADL-OOL via MEL and return will get you 70 in Elevate fare for $492

Are these Status challenge emails common -- is there any predictability about receiving one or is it standard Loyalty program 'black magic'
