The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Agree, I'm looking at getting 40SC on elevate for $250 (using 10% fare discount) MEL-xBNE-CNS in early September. It was less than $25 more than a getaway fare on the sake flights.

Have started putting this together for myself if anyone is interested in flights departing SYD, doesn't include stopovers (yet):
URL is 1drv.ms/x/s!Ao4yYFRRpjdaiGqJCIDAZTCcqOJd

Maybe someone has already done something better which I could leverage?

Cheers

How do people get the more scenic routes to show up for Virgin flights.

When I try to book via the Virgin website it seems to generally show just direct flights, whereas when I use other booking sites I can get more scenic options popping up. I've tried doing multicity bookings but this increasees the cost significantly.

Hi all, if I was to book a business class flight via Flybuys travel, would I still earn the 5 points per $1 that velocity state on their website? I've called Velocity and they are not sure either

Hey guys, some interesting runs available on Hainan Airlines via Xi'an, especially onwards to other cities in China (although you often have to stay a night in Xi'an - free with next morning connection).

For example, 25 Nov 2017 MEL (U) - XIY (Y) - PVG/CAN and returning 7 Jan 2018 for $503 and 140 SCs -> $3.60/SC.

just noticed when using the promo code GPR69 that full business class fares from OOL to MEL via SYD are pricing at 617 which nets you

110 SCs at $5.60 per SC. Could be handy for someone who needs some SCs to maintain status but doesn't want to fly too many sectors.

Could drop down to Freedom fares which would earn 50SCs for $257 or $5.14 per SC

Hmmm, thanks.

I have 173SC to get to Platinum within two weeks before some drop off. I am kind of tempted, but not sure I can justify the >$1000 it is going to cost.

I'm the same as you, only around 200 SC to hit platinum, but I don't really see any benefit in Plat... happy to be pursuaded otherwise...

Considering you get a soft downgrade to Gold I can't see any value in spending a lot of money to retain platinum. Be better off using that spend to maintain gold the following year.

I used to think that until YX came along. If you fly enough Domestic sectors, it is worth it. Not if you are 100+SC's short though. I am 45SC's short based on my upcoming flights, will definitely do a SC run to maintain Plat

Don't forget the W (flexi saver) tickets on SQ that yield ~200 SCs for ~$1000, usually only marginally more than discount Y for the same routes. If it's a trip you planned to make anyway, well worth paying for the higher fare class.

In that scenario you're better off retaining platinum though, assuming the cost is the same! Retaining platinum this year means you don't have to do anything at all the following year (while platinum) to still get a soft landing to gold, and 1y WP + 1y SG is better than 2y SG, right? :)

I am looking to maintain gold and need 110 status points still. I see lots of east coast runs for this but looking for something from Perth. Need to complete in next 3 weeks.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'd recommend a trip to Singapore. For around $700 you can have a weekend in Singapore (3-5Nov or any weekend in Nov actually) and take home 80SCs.
Or go to Ho Chi Minh city via Singapore for $850 odd, and take home 120SC.

110 is an awkward number. deva22's advice is probably best, its not school holidays or anything so you should be able to pick something up.

Is MEL-OOL still the best value run out of Melbourne? I had a look at flights in March and can see Business Class for about $1100 for 140SC. Not as cheap as some deals, but short and convenient.

If you go MEL-SYD-OOL you'll pool about 210 if I recall correctly.
