The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Should have kept my big mouth shut!

No, you just did what AFFers do........help each other. That's the base premise of this whole site. It's VA who need to hang their boof heads in shame!

Instead of fixing the myriad of inexcusable stuff ups and bugs that have plagued their new beaut booking engine (now into the second week of comedic shams), they choose instead to pluck the low hanging fruit and shaft their very clients who are foolishly enduring a cough changeover and poorly implemented computer system. This is just bull**** VA! How about getting your bloody priorities in order and give us the booking system you promised, and is worth what you seem to think you should foist upon us at every opportunity. What a pack of ungrateful scabs this bunch are! Expect us to identify all their problems for them and then prioritise shafting us over fixing their stuff ups!

VA have totally rewritten the text of "Shafting Your Loyal Customers For Dummies 101". I'm absolutely flabbergasted at the insolence displayed by these d*#kheads!

If anyone knows of any quirky routing between Melbourne and Brisbane that is one of these cheap points flight but good status credit earn, can you please PM me with the details.

I doubt you will find one like SYD-BNE. It does look as though the engine is basically pricing them based on the miles between the first city and the last city (regardless of whether it is direct or not), so SYD-BNE will come in cheaper than MEL-BNE. MEL-ADL-BNE is the best I have found for the route you have chosen.

Keep in mind that this does depend on award availability, so if award seats are gone on one of the legs then you won't see that option.

It seems this might be the only way of dealing with VA into the future.

I'd advise everyone to keep good value redemptions, SC runs etc to themselves and trusted and known friends.

I'm happy to discuss this with admin and the mods but it will take a few weeks as Adium is in South Africa and I'm in Vietnam.

I like the idea of having a more private areas to discuss good deals - but how do you vet who gets entry??

Show a copy of your Velocity Gold\Platinum card assuming that VA staff aren't eligible for them?

Any better ideas?

Any chance admin could create a thread that airline reps can't access? (If that is what's happening.)

How would you identify all of the airline reps (i.e. you know who the official ones are, but there may well be other lurkers....)

They haven't killed all the indirect routings, perhaps the status run routes are just filling up and using up allocations?

No they haven't, but it does appear they've removed the SYD-MEL-OOL - hardly surprising, given it was clearly an error, with the first segment taking you further away!

From what I can see they are removing all the 'super cheap' routes that made there way into the system - i.e. the 14000 + $20 two segment business flight - at least from all the major routes.

I did notice they've reduced the number of options on some routes, so I think they are all errors which will be removed in the near future. Limited opportunity to take advantage I think.

Just had a thought ... My suspicion is that reward flights are based on the available paid flights, but calculated at the origin to destination direct rate (as someone eluded to earlier in this thread) and as they are cleaning up the paid flights (no-one in their right mind is going to pay significantly more to fly a route like SYD-MEL-OOL) and deleting them, they are disappearing from the reward flight options. If I'm correct, I suspect we'll see a lot more of the same soon. Can anyone confirm that you were able to buy a SYD-MEL-OOL ticket when you could take it as a reward? You can't buy it now - option foesn't exist. In other words, they're not deliberately removing the reward options, rather removing the silly paid options.

I think they are fixing things - just that, for us, there are good and bad things as a result of those fixes.

Yep, it looks like the Velocity points requirements have now been aligned to the cost of the flights, with indirect flights now substantially more expensive than directt flights! Must've happened overnight last night.

EDIT: Oops, I was looking at any seat figures! You can still get MEL-CBR-SYD (13,800) and MEL-OOL via SYD or ADL (21,800).
What happens when your forced to fly multi sector because there is no direct flight option ? Are we now just being taken advantage of ?

Still might be some of these deals around.

Is also very weird that it offers you the SYD-CBR-MEL and vv routings on paid fares...
And a bad point that the Business fares are no longer shown (I often used to upfare if it was cheap enough)

Yes, you could.

I had enough for 3 of the SYD-MEL-OOL flights on points, and looked at booking a 4th with cash. Non-rewards J fare was uselessly expensive though.

I don't remember how much, but it wasn't cheap like that MEL-BNE-NTL Flexi fare a few weeks ago. I think it was roughly the cost of 2 J flights: SYD-MEL in J, then MEL-OOL in J.

Found some nice (<$6 per SC) flights in the new system, but they're getting more difficult and expensive.
