We often stay at the Intercontinental in Sydney but decided to try something different after the disastrous changes to the lounge food they had done last time we stayed. The view is one of the best in Sydney but the food in the lounge last time we were there (August) had changed to "give our guests more freedom of choice" (LOL) was more like reheated Coles mini-pies and spring rolls.

We just spent a nice weekend at the newly refurbished Park Royal Day Street Darling Harbour. We used to stay there "in the old days" for fairs and conventions but it changed hands some years ago. It seems the Park Royal franchise is now independent again (I believe it was part of ICH for a while and many became Crowne Plazas).

The refurbished hotel is well done. Still some work to do on the restaurant but most of the renovations seem completed.

We found a great 50% off promo deal through Qantas and stayed in a club room then upgraded (paid) to an executive suite. Pleasant 2 rooms with views over Darling Harbour and nice new bathrooms.

The club lounge is excellent with great views over the freeway to the old wool stores and Darling Harbour. Staff were lovely and they had very good canopies (and more food) with drinks in the evening and excellent breakfast spread.

Definitely one to consider if you are spending a few days in Sydney.

Parkroyal was one of the brands run by South Pacific Hotel Corporation which was owned by the Pritzker family (Hyatt and Royal Caribbean) and was sold to Bass Hotels in 2000, UOL (listed Singaporean company) brought naming rights off 6 continents (for runner to IHG) in 2002. Priority Privilege as it stands today is largely the same as Pacific Privilege which SHPC introduced.
