The Master SQ Guide (Krisflyer, Waitlists & Waitlists Clearing)

When cancelling a Star Alliance award booked with Krisflyer, is the redeposit fee of $75 per person or per award booking as a whole for all passengers (e.g. $75 to redeposit an award booking for 2 ppl)?

I'm looking to make a booking for the end of September/early October 2020 from Europe back to Australia (MEL/SYD). Which is the best route to look at? I know to avoid London given the high departure taxes. I would like to do Suites all the way if possible.

Awards open up at 355 days out? Is there an exact time each day? And is booking 355 days out the best chance of securing seats?

deleting a nominee is still a bit hit & miss for me online.

I have person A (B,C,D i do not want to touch), who has been in my list for over 12months
I have added person E 4wks ago.

So today, should I be able to delete person A?

im pretty sure you get charged a fee as well

Because we ran into problems with redemption nominees we have multiple family members with accounts now. So son, brother, SIL, sons partner and so on. They all have the dragon CC and we now split up lots of our business bills.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I was recently advised that WL will not clear until 3 weeks before the flight. I questioned that WL wouldn’t clear say, 4 months < the flight? She seemed sure of her statement, but I still wondered if she was misinterpreting that they will cancel a WL if not cleared three weeks before the flight. Any other recent experiences?

I was told 3-4 weeks out they would cancel us from the waitlist as it would be unlikely to release seats after that. It didn't make any sense that they wouldn't release seats up to the day before. I didn't bother seeking clarification on the agents statement.

W/L can and do clear anytime - last week I had one clear for Sep 07, 2020 flt.

If W/L has not cleared 14 days prior to flt time it will auto cancel and you will rec SMS and email confirmation.

But if the seats aren't sold 14 days out, they will clear the WL right? Is it first in best dressed, or do they go by status?

No guarantee any W/L will clear - plenty SQ R and F cabins go out less than full with W/L bookings cancelled 14 days prior - has always been this way.

Yes W/Ls are ranked by status and booking date.

I have always only flown on rewards points with SQ and I have never had a waitlist clear. Even though I have often called to request with a reason that I need to travel on a different date.

You must just be unlucky - I have had scores clear from months out to day before

And nope have not purch comm flt on SQ for many years and clearing of W/Ls for me def not result of status - I am as low as you can go in many ways ;)

A couple of questions about an upcoming KrisFlyer booking. Context is as follows:

Planning to take the family 2A + 2C to Europe next Easter in J. (We have points in KrisFlyer from before the Great Amex Deval and need to book by early 2022.) We were planning this long before the COVID19 thing, and are still booking speculatively for that time given points bookings are pretty flexible. A few days ago I got SYD-HND-CDG for the outbound, on JL, for all four of us using AAdvantage miles. (I wanted to include MEL-SYD but QF have not opened schedules beyond 27/03/21.) Planned return route is FCO-SIN-MEL, 4 J seats are consistently available as each day with the FCO flight opens up, and we have enough miles in our separate accounts to book 3 + 1 on the same flights.

I have four redemption nominees (wife, my parents, her mother) and need to add two (our kids). So by my reckoning I'll need to delete at least one.

So, questions:
  1. Is there a special order in which I need to do this for it to work? Can I delete any nominee anytime provided they've been registered for at least six months? Or does deleting A lock me from deleting B until six months later? Can I add anyone anytime with an empty slot? I don't want to screw this up and make it impossible to book.
  2. The kids' passports have expired and I didn't intend to renew them until closer to the time. Can I add the nominee with their old passport numbers, and then check-in at departure time with different passport numbers?

The passport issue is fine - old passport now and then update any time before departure or at the airport. APIS might require you to update in advance of travel... 72 hours or whatever it is.

I am in the same boat with my AMEX devalued points transfer and now with this covid thing, i am going to struggle to use all my points before expirey.

I am too scared to book anything as people are saying there are too many doubts about when international travel will open up again.
