The Master SQ Guide (Krisflyer, Waitlists & Waitlists Clearing)

Like Captain Halliday, I cannot find the exact answer to my question on SQ T&Cs. Our outbound SYD SIN DXB revenue fare in Y at the end of the month is showing as eligible to upgrade with points - it seems I can upgrade one or both legs. I know I can upgrade using points from another KF member who is not travelling but am I able to do this online or is that phone call to KF?

Yes, 131011. Automated routing of Kris membership and existing bookings puts you through to an agent to change existing booking……. Routing system not that smart though as it cannot recognise it is a redemption booking, so agent that takes the call cannot help…… that agent the holds the line open until they get through to Kris redemptions and then politely transfers you to new agent….. new Kris agent makes all the changes….. all fairly smooth….. apart from messing up my departure leg 🤔

A quick question…

I have waitlisted first and business redemptions on a flight in December. (I hold a paid premium economy booking on the same flight as a backup, accepting the likelihood of waitlist flights clearing at the moment being low.)

If my business waitlist clears more than 2 weeks out and I pay for it with points, will my first booking still remain open. If it then subsequently cleared, would I only have to pay the points difference between the two? It’s a very hypothetical question at the moment, I know.

In short, yes - your paid Y+ booking will remain intact when you confirm your award J redemption. You'll have to cancel the paid Y+ booking and then wait for the refund (if applicable), which will take a while.

Looks very interesting!!

The HSBC Star Alliance credit card

Earn Complimentary KrisFlyer *G status after spending $4,000 (in the first year) and 60K to retain.
After seeing there is a new CC on its way that offers Star alliance Gold, I am curious if it would be of any value to me. I plan to book Suites in the next 5 months, I have no status with SQ.

Do Krysflyer *G's get access to more reward seats, or earlier access to rewards?

I don’t believe so. Pre Covid every time I wanted to book suites with no status I was always able to.
But this year with SQ gold I fail every time.
Hopefully will settle early next year.

Surely not because you are gold, because as pps I am also struggling and thats because everything (into and out of Aust) remains so damn busy. Travelling to Dubai end Nov, a short notice thing, so only booked last week. Preferred outward 212 from Syd is waitlisted in all classes on 2 consecutive days, alternate dep on 222 (A380) has a few J/Y, nothing in Suites. Return early Dec has me somewhere over the wing in J on both legs, with few other seats showing avail.

T/A commented that she sees this a lot - not so much onward flts from Sin or elsewhere, but sheer demand for premium seats in/out of Aust continuing a pattern that started back in Apr/May and hasnt stopped.. Also shows in fare prices - am going with SQ because they're so good, but also because the alternative direct with EK was 2 grand more in J..

I’m looking at premium class redemptions to CDG in September. I can see availability on the Aus - Sin leg and Sin - CDG leg when I search independently (4 hr between flights in Singapore). When I search Aus - CDG, it only comes up with a waitlist option, not with those flight combinations, but instead a 24 hour stopover. Is it just a matter of calling up to get the actual flights booked?

Also, to confirm, if I book a mixed class journey, it is priced at the higher cabin for the entire journey. (Eg Premium economy and first, is charged at first rates all the way.)

I've had very mixed results lately when trying to 'marry- up' 2 individual available legs...Also mixed class bookings for me have been a real pain when it comes to pricing of miles...they wouldn't go with the award charts (even at higher class rate)and came up with mileage that was higher than the 2 individual rates..even after referring to 'supervisor')
I gave up and booked 2 individual legs on-line, cost me extra miles but was able to lock the booking away....
It used to be simple but for me the whole experience has turned into nightmare territory...
Hope your experience is better.......

Your experience matches mine, despite several attempts at escalations. I have also been told that if a waitlist clears on one booking, the confirmed sector cannot be transferred.

I'm not sure if this is a system or process limitation that's been implemented but it seems to have stuck and I've not found a way to circumvent it.

A different question.

I have two seperate back to back bookings. One in Business and one in Premium Economy. Does the SQ system allow then to be linked in some way so that baggage can be checked through?

Usually possible at check in of the first flight at airport

Should I be able to add a paid stopover to a one way saver J?

I have had 2 goes on the phone and both quoted and extra 83,000 miles and under $200 aud - and said I couldn't add a $100USD paid stopover to a one way saver

(I've booked F with a stopover and am trying to book some J for family and don't have enough for the extra points)

I had read I could on point hacks:

One of our favourite things about KrisFlyer is that you can get a free stopover on roundtrip Saver awards. Or, if redeeming a one-way award, you can just purchase stopovers for just US$100 each.

This information is outdated.
See here for the current information that applies. In short, One-Way Saver awards don't have any Stopover option (paid or free), you need a Round-Trip Saver award.

Not a problem. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - this deval (as well as points increase across the board) happened in July last year and many were caught unaware.
