The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Card!)

My 60,000 bonus points was awarded within a day of meeting the required minimum spend for this card. I would have expected nothing less from AMEX :)

Probably been answered so apologies in advance, but what's the go with the posting of bonus points for additional cards, when offered?

So I got the popup recently, 5k for an additional, spend $500. This was met a week or so ago. My experience with Amex is that they're usually pretty punctual, but I can't find the T&Cs I usually screenshot, so not sure if they're posting them x weeks after end of promo, or something like that?

50k seems to be the standard, 60k with a referral (only 30k ff points). I suppose at least 100k Amex points.

Yep, it's been 60,000 with the referral for a while. Don't forget that if you get someone to use a referral this could become 100,000 very quickly.

And if you get on now you may still be able to register for small shop.

Cheers, will have a think. Was just hoping a better sign up bonus would come up. But doesn’t seem to be coming.

No one knows with these things.

I can say in September last year I decided not to wait for a better offer and jumped on for the 60,000 points. The offer hasn't changed since that time (if you read through the comments from September 2019 you'll see a number of AFF members speculating about a higher offer which never eventuated).

I've had the benefit of 2 x small shops and numerous other very generous cashbacks (Eg Coles/Myer gift cards) since September as well as Amex paying me the $400 travel credit in cash as I had to cancel the booking I had made with it because of Covid 19. So I'm happy :)

Can you share your experience with $400 travel credit refund in cash , I also made a booking with Qantas with total value $1200 using partial $400 travel and $800 in cash for NZ flight in April 2020 . I haven't contact Amex as well as Qantas since COVID-19 begin . Is it possible to get back all $1,200 in cash ?

My booking was for a hotel in the US via Amex travel. I was refunded the $400 travel credit in cash. I was also refunded about $28 in addition as the booking was for $428.

It took many phone calls to sort this with Amex.

I had booked a car hire on Koh Samui over Easter 2020. I cancelled once the flights were cancelled. A couple of months later Amex refunded the balance of the car hire that I had paid and the $400 travel credit that was used towards the hire was returned to the travel credit account with an extended period before it would expire.

Interesting to hear both different experience one with refunded travel credit and Dr Ralph cash refunded , i will contact Amex to see what they can offer

How did you go with the travel credit. I had flights with virgin cancelled and what is being offered is to rebook immediately or a virgin flight credit.

I had a similar issue. Long story short, I got both credits back ($400 Explorer and $200 PE).

Both had been used on QF flights and I didn’t get them back until QF had refunded Amex, so that might be the sticking point with VA flights.

am I correct in reading that points earned on Amex explorer can now be transferred to virgin Atlantic?

Looks like it, from Amex's website under the link for Explorer - "Including Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer, Emirates Skywards, Etihad Guest, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Air New Zealand AirpointsTM , THAI Royal Orchid Plus, Malaysia Airlines Enrich and Cathay Pacific Asia MilesTM"

Never was clear to me why you couldn't (in theory of course, since if you held a Plat Edge and linked the MR accounts, you always could).

Edit to also pick fault with Amex's proof reader - "
  • Redeem points with your choice of 9 airline partner programs9 including Virgin Australia and Singapore Airlines or with our Hotel Partner, Hilton Honours"

That was my interpretation of it also. Handy extra transfer partner if that is correct!

I currently hold the Explorer card, opened recently for the bonus signup points. I held it back in 2016 when it was first released.

I wish to get into the Ascent program to maximise my points transfer to KRIS. Does anyone know/has anyone recently opened another AMEX card (I think it was the Platinum Edge?) card to the migrate their account and points into the Ascent program? Any advice?
