Okay, the VA-EY partnership has been around for a while now. Things should have been ironed out by now, so I have a few questions (I'm WP):

1. Why can't I either online or by calling the GCC, select seats (or even ask that a seat request be submitted) on VA ticketed flights operated by EY e.g. The AUH-CDG leg of MEL-AUH-CDG. Have tried this several times, with the same answer: "no".

2. How can I find out the EY PNR for a booking made through VA? Last time I spoke to the Plat call centre, the lady was asking me if I knew it! How would I know? It's your computer system.

3. Why can I only upgrade the VA operated legs of a Y+ fare (purchased through the VA website) to J with points? If booked through EY (a Y fare, obviously, given EY don't do Y+), EY Guest points can be used. At the very least, the cash upgrade auction is available. I'm possibly better of leaving VFF and moving all crediting over to Etihad Guest...

For point 2, you can use checkmytrip.com, plug in your booking number, and you will be able to see the alternate booking number used by Etihad. Works great for Japan Air, American Airlines etc, who use a different PNR for the booking

Umm... I could be wrong, but I don't think this'll work, checkmytrip.com talks to Amadeus, doesn't it? VA (now) uses Sabre, and the equivalent is www.virtuallythere.com. I have at least one booking with VA flights operated by EY which shows up there, but I can't see an EY booking number in it.

Really hope I'm wrong and someone can point me to where it is though!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I would have thought any new bookings after mid Feb would show, given both are using the same GDS (and therefore have the same recloc)?

The only booking I have was made before the Etihad Sabre cutover (by a day - missed it by *that* much!), and the Etihad website says it doesn't recognise any bookings made before their cutover, so I suppose it's possible new bookings (made after the 23rd Feb) share locators... All I know for sure is that mine doesn't seem to help me much!

What I did this week for my VA ticketed flight being operated by EY was call the EY call centre. I quoted my ticket number. In return she gave me my EY PNR. This allows me to now access booking management and online check in on EY website.

I was able to seat select manually with them.

When using their call centre I just selected the option that said push x for gold elite members.

What I want to know is how my only choice of 2 seats together a month out from my flight, and as a Gold, is in row 41!!

Sabre does not support seat assignment on codeshare flights. We are working with Sabre to have this functionality developed (which would be beneficial for all airlines hosted on Sabre). At the moment we are developing a manual process to enable seat assignments on codeshare flights operated by EY.
Of course the policies of our partners apply, on flights that are marketed and operated by them.

The call centre should be able to identify the EY record locator. Apologies if that didn't happen.

At this stage upgrades are only available on flights marketed and operated by VA.
We would love to enable upgrades on flights operated by our partners, and we will look to have this as a feature in the future. Sorry don't have a time frame for you.

Sorry but we don't have any visibility as to how EY allocate seats.

Just a note for other's future reference - the VFF contact centre could indeed give me the Etihad reference number for an upcoming business reward flight (VA codeshare on EY booked after the VA cutover but before the EY one), and calling up the (unusually competent!) EY contact centre got me seat selection and progress on booking the EY chauffeur service.
