Vaccine Rollout in Australia - personal accounts.

SIL had second Pfizer last Thursday. Needed a Panadol about 6 hours later but nothing more than that. Just an achey feeling.

My 87 year old mother (lives in Gordon, ACT) had her first shot of AstraZeneca last week. She was contacted by her regular GP clinic and invited to make an appointment. They are not listed on the government list of clinics, but evidently they had vaccine! She was shot up by the regular practice nurse who is a total goddess at giving shots (I use the same clinic and receive regular allergy shots there) and Mum said she didn't even feel it. No pain at site, no headaches, no symptoms at all - apparently older people have a less strong reaction due to weaker immune systems? The clinic made an appointment for her second shot precisely 12 weeks from the first shot before she left their premises.

DIL in her thirties (GP) had AZ last week and was unwell with body aches and fever for 24 hours but nothing that a Panadol and nurofen couldn't deal with.

29 year old son had first AZ jab yesterday. Came home from work this afternoon with a fever, 39.2, and aches and pains in every joint. Not a happy camper right now☹️

Expat family in Rome had AZ yesterday. One only has a headache the other one has chills, headache, nausea and body aches. Both in their mid 40’s

Well only 25% have a "severe reaction" to the AZ but we know it is 100% (or close to it) effective against severe disease/death. I would not be disheartened in any way. Just unlucky to get physical symptoms of immune response

Got my first AZ yesterday. Upper arm a bit sore today, similar to as if there was a bruise there (nothing visible). Next in 12 weeks.

At the GP clinic I attended (not my own), they asked all under 70s for evidence that they were in Phase 1b. Most didn't have it (but most 'looked' like they were in 1b) but the clinic sensibly did them anyway.

There was a new consent card handed out to everyone as they checked in, re blood clots, but I wasn't asked to sign anything.

Three staff in the room - computer operator / recorder, the doctor who administered the injection and I think a nurse-guy who just looked on; there to help if necessary. All went very efficiently.

Interesting to hear how differently the clinics are operating. The only person I interacted with was the Nursing person who did the complete check and administration.

Then it would be four in my case, including the receptionist who checked people in! But she didn't monitor the 15 minute wait afterwards.

I have a few health problems. My GP said my chance of dying if I get covid is 1 in 10 and of getting long covid if I survive is 2 in 10. So I had the first AZ dose on Thursday at the GP clinic. There were plenty of 1B patients lining up as well as me. Unfortunately, I had a little vasovagal episode; the same as when I had the 2020 Flu jab. They will be watching me like a hawk when I have the second shot in July.
Only a slight weariness on Friday. Otherwise, no swelling or bruising around the injection site, and no other side effects.

Thanks for your report. If you don't mind, was your vasovagal like a fainting type episode? Cheers, glad you are well otherwise.

I didn't actually faint. Last year, the flu shot was given through the open car window because of covid. After about 10 minutes, I started to feel really warm and light headed and giddy. The GP took my BP which was very low. I stayed for a long time in the car with the seat back lowered until I felt better and my BP had gone back to normal.

A few weeks ago, I had the flu shot but they lay me on a bed, took my BP before the jab, raised my feet and left me there for about 30 minutes. They even had adrenaline drawn up into a syringe.

As I was OK after this years' flu shot, I guess they thought that last year may have been a one off. So they sent me to the waiting area for 30 minutes, rather then the usual 15 for most patients. After only a few minutes, the same feelings as last year came over me so they quickly moved me to a bed, raised my feet and checked my BP regularly for about another hour. It was low at first, but not as low as last year.

Luckily, my regular unpaid Uber driver was happy to wait for me.

Thanks for that. I had a similar episode on JQ to HNL. There was fortunately a Dr onboard whom sat with me while they gave me oxygen. Initially, they thought I had a cardiac episode, because my arm flailed against each seat back as they dragged me to the rear cabin and, hence, I had significant pain in the upper torso. To this day, I don't know what the vasovagal syncope was caused by and haven't experienced it since.

All the best.

Had my AZ shot about three weeks ago now. Didn't even feel the shot, in and out, 15 minute wait, most serious effect was a bit of extra sleep and the dull ache in the arm. Have a giant bruise on my leg that I don't quite know where it came from now, but no headache so assume I just kicked it while out on the beers.

Had my first Pfizer jab at work this morning. All very well organised, Pfizer for the under 50s and AZ for the rest.
Injection site is mildly tender. I’ve been tired and headachey all afternoon but I also have a five week old who has been feeding hourly today so not unexpected.

A colleague got the AZ and ended up in emergency with breathing problems 😳
