Hi All,

I've been sitting on VA WP a few years, now I am trying to maintain QF and VA both as gold. As a result, I will be dropping down to SG with VA on July 1. I still haven't used my IHG/Hilton or Hertz/Europcar complimentary memberships.

I'm wondering what is the best date to activate these to get the most time out of the complimentary plat memberships (ie. up to 23 months?)

I am thinking I will go with Hilton for the hotel, because I am already IHG Gold and Hilton gives free breakfast and lounge access with diamond.
I am thinking I will go with Hertz for the car hire because I prefer them and have a growing points balance with them.

I understand the review date for Hilton is March 31? So If I activate April 1st I should get 21 months of Diamond.
If I active Hertz Presidents Circle on January I should get 24 months?

If anyone can confirm or deny my assumptions I'd appreciate your feedback. Thanks :)

Bump.

Does anyone remember when they activated their Hilton and/or Hertz memberships how long it took to expire ?

I you activate Hilton diamond in Jan 1, 2018 that will be your status until at least March 31st 2020.

Im holding off until after Jan to active/gift a WP companion and then will activate the Hilton benefit. And wait and wait and email and argue, and eventually get the Diamond benefit (been through it once before already). Must say, its a nice benefit when you finally get it.

Hubby activated his Europcar benefit and never found anything good came from it so maybe hertz next time.

re platinum companions. What my partner and I have done is ...
My Platinum expires June 21, and his Jan 21 ie 6 months gap. Under the family status transfer we both earn and top each other's status up where necessary over the year to ensure when our respective dates come up we platinum qualify again. Then there is no point earning more than 800 per person. So over a year we do both earn a total of 1600. But it is the timing that counts too.

Yes I recall getting the gold benefit involved many phone calls with both Hilton and Virgin claiming it was the other parties fault.

Diamond should be nice, I have a euro trip coming up next year, so will try to stay in properties with an executive lounge. My accor and IHG are silver and gold respectivly, so not much comes out of that.

With Hertz I find they readily provide upgrades, whether an elite member or not.

I can see a common trend in this thread of actually activating the gold benefit, I've had the same problem. Which appears to be most successful? Phoning/emailing virgin or hilton?
