Thanks to so many AFF members for viewing the QF delays and cancellations thread more than 200000 times in total and awarding 800 'likes.'

While the views can be partly a function of how often each individual airline thread is updated and how many delays or cancellations each airline has and that are recorded, a statistician might conclude that AFF members were far more interested in QF than in any other airline - and to a much greater extent than QFd's domestic market share (including JQ) of around 65 per cent, or its international market share including JQ and partner EK of around 33 per cent would suggest.

There have only been 110092 views of all other domestic and international airlines combined.

JQ is second to QF with 35327; VA third with 21612, EK with 6980 and then if I recall CX with 6298. The latter may reflect times when CX was more closely aligned to QF if I recall, as some may have become habitual CX passengers.

Only 41 have 'liked' the VA delays thread but 800 'like' the QF one. This is also not reflective of the number of passengers each carries.

TT (domestic, not TZ) has had 5250 views.

While reflective of how often any contributors spot delays (if they occur at all), airlines with few views include SA (which only operates JNB - PER - JNB of immediate relevance to our shores) with just 206 views and surprisingly given that it has recently added BNE - YVR to its much longer established SYD - YVR flights, AC with only 286.

3K, despite AFF member JohnK's travails, has also been poorly viewed with only 132 but it is rare for me or others to spot delays of its flights.

Leisure carrier AirAsiaX is more popular for AFF members to view delays (4686) than UA with its USA business (and leisure) routes - 3350.

SQ is surprisingly low with 2738 views given that 'Business Traveller' has once again awarded it the title of best worldwide airline. Rational or not, when one suffers a delay or heaven forbid a cancellation with an airline for which a traveller has lofty expectations, it could be extremely irritating.

GA has had fewer views than PR, perhaps demonstrating how MNL is both an increasingly popular connecting destination for leisure travellers to many points in those islands, and a vastly more important business destination than 15 years ago.

MH has been viewed a fair bit for an airline that had seen a dip in its bookings for quite a while, at more than 3000 AFF member 'looks' but its unfortunate incidents such as MH370 have largely been covered elsewhere on AFF, which is appropriate.

EY is fairly low at 3173 views given its major tieup with VA.

AFF members such as the redoubtable Quickstatus who delivers many solutions to questions about delays, our esteemed pilot contributors (including the newest one) who may not wish to be named here but we all know their usernames, Flyerqf, ozbeachbabe, moa999 and Princess Fiona plus JessicaTam and straitman who give us valuable further information and quite a few others whom I have forgotten - apologies - deserve thanks for keeping us all up to date and most importantly letting us know why it is that particular flights are delayed or cancelled.

mannej also deserves thanks for suggesting to me that the thread be widened from just a discussion about QF. This has broadened the interest that highlighting delays and cancellations holds for members and visitors to the forum, because it is not just QF that suffers from delays and cancelled flights.

AFF member JohnPhelan's comment (also made by one or two others) that QF was mistaken to have got rid of two of its B744s (given resultant delays when QF is short of such equipment) will go down as a memorable contribution to the delays and cancellations threads. That initiative by QF management has resulted in more delays for the QF thread to cover.

Our highest praise, however, should go to travellers who report from an airport lounge or a holding pen, or even on board, as to how delays or cancellations are being handled. Knowing which airlines tend to offer hotel accommodation (when available) for significant delays or cancellations and how efficient their staff tend to be (in challenging times) can be very useful information for many of us.

And, by the way, those of you who 'like' these delay threads on AFF may be doing so through gritted teeth, except for AFFer JohnK, who when commenting recently about eight consecutive flight delays on his travels implied that he had won the lottery. Not a 'lottery' that time poor businessmen or leisure travellers with an important event to attend at short notice like a Requiem Mass interstate might like to have a ticket in.

Well done Melburnian1. Your efforts at keeping this thread contemporaneous even with posts at 0730am on a Sunday morning is highly commendable. Is there such a tier as AFF lifetime gold?. You would have attained that several times over.
 
One other member who submitted an amazingly detailed and informative post recently was jakob01, who wrote about how JQ has apparently recommenced regularly cancelling one of its two daily return MEL - PER round trips.

This sort of information is pure gold because it gives AFF members and casual site viewers alike warnings of unsavoury business practices that airlines may have in store for unknowing prospective travellers.

In the space of a couple of days the number 'liking' the QF cancellations/delays thread has risen from 803 to 819 but I remain mystified as to why so few 'like' the equivalent VA thread, because we know that many AFF members travel on VA regularly or occasionally.
 
Is it worth creating a miscellaneous delays thread? Must have broken some sort of record today.

PG224 CNX-BKK departed ~45m late and arrived ~30m late but it doesn't end there. Waited ~40m for first bags to arrive and only about 10-15 bags came out. Another 5-10m and the rest of the bags start trickling out. Go to oversize and no one there. Can see my golf clubs in the lift but not allowed in there. Eventually the bludgers start coming back from lunch (all went to lunch together for God knows how long) and now my bag has disappeared from lift. By this stage I had lost the plot and screaming and wife at it as well. Eventually golf bag is back. Then another 15-20m in taxi queue.

A flight delay is only one of the inconveniences one can encounter. And yes I do know it's all part of travel but it's a horrible experience with a screaming baby. Nearly 2 hours from touchdown into taxi from a domestic flight.

Like a "Travel delays (non airplanes)"?

Whats lunchtime in Thailand?. Plane must have arrived after 3pm?. Maybe a shift change?

Yes well Airlines all think that as soon as passengers are disgorged from the aircraft then they don't really care how long it takes for passengers to get to where they want.

Its no use saying a flight takes 1.5 hours when on a door to door basis it can take 6-7 hours even if no delays are encountered
