So, I'm looking at booking some travel from Australia, then around the US on a DL ticket, including a flight inbound to LAX on Alaskan Airlines. All the Transpacific flights are going to be on VA metal. This would be some time around July.

I noticed that AS are relocating their operation at LAX from T3 to T6 some time in March. I've heard rumours that VA's LAX *departures* are going to move from T3 to T5 sometime soon (April was mooted), but now it seems that they have no idea when this is going to occur (see: https://twitter.com/#!/VirginAustralia/status/177209751984275459).

Now, I know that T6 to T3 basically involves a walk halfway around the terminal precinct.

What are my options for transfers here? Is there a way to transfer airside? Just how screwed am I if my servicing flight runs an hour late?

Hi Chrisjrn

There is a shuttle service it stop outside each termial it use to be free but be careful of some of the people outside terminals that say you have to give donation. Below is a link to a page that may help. Other wise it is probably a 15-20min walk but depends on baggage.

Go to the Blue bus stop zone of the inner ring kerb. Look for the "A" bus at the arrivals level; it should take about 15 minutes once on the bus.

You could walk - head left and down nearly to T4 then go across at the road (there are pedestrian traffic lights):

Walking can be quickest - you can wait 15 mins for the blue A bus and, as serfty says, it takes about 15 mins. If you are at a real pinch you can cut through the car park ie straight across the middle. There are pedestrian crossings into and out of the car parks, you just have to negotiate your way through! Either way, bus or walk, try not to have your luggage with you. I'll be there in April doing the the Alaska-VA transfer. I can report back if you wish, but as you've said, who knows when VA departures will move.

Gees - it's not that long a walk from T3 to T6.

Now if you were walking from T1 to T7 that's different (unless you cut across).

Have a cart for your bags, and just walk. Even at a slow walk I think you'll be pushing it to take more than 10 mins.

OK, that's been my experience in the past (transferring from TBIT to T1, fwiw), and agreed, the walk isn't going to take very long. Presumably, I'll be able to get my baggage transferred from T6 onto my VA flight, so I'll have next to no baggage.

So, basically, my transfer window would be ~2hrs 30mins. As a VA Platinum member, would I be entitled to the priority screening line?

How'd it work out?
Ive done it three times now,
1. VA arrival to VX departure, so T5 to T3. I got caught in customs so had to move quickly. Bags were checked through so i just had me and a laptop bag. Took less than 7 minutes. Flashed the velocity gold bag tags for priority screening and was through in a few minutes.
2. As above, but with two suitcases on a trolley - not so easy to move fast with the trolley, but still did it in about 15 minutes (had to wait nearly 4 minutes for the elevator to get up to the departure level!)
3. Alaska arrival to VA departure. Was at the furthest gate but Had plenty of time so went for a bit of a wander to find the T5-T6 tunnel and then around to T3. Still was through screening in well under 30 minutes and I really was in absolutely NO HURRY.
