For those with a general interest in aviation, make sure you get yourself to Temora for one of their biannual flying days. They have smaller events every couple of weeks, and you normally see three or four of their aircraft flying. Earlier this year we saw the Wirraway, Boomerang, Spitfire and Meteor on a mini fly day. Small crowd but great show.

This time it was their big show, and a tremendous array of aircraft. The RAAF had a Hercules on the ground, and the Roulettes, C17, 737 AWACs, and F18 in the air. HARS had the Caribou, Dakota, and Catalina performing. The list of flying displays is really too long to list here, but the Russian Roolettes (!), Corsair, Spitfire(s), Mustang(s), Warhawk, and Sabre were just a few of the wonderful aircraft that were shown in their element. Matt Hall also put on a display to be remembered...when he did Pilots' course they must have had a very different take on aerodynamics, as he makes an aircraft do things that seem impossible.

The whole thing was started by David Lowy, and he personally puts on a very good display in an A-37.

Whilst there was a large crowd, it was very well controlled, and it was no problem getting a good view, no matter how late you arrived.

Great day...add it to the bucket list.

Sounds like a great idea. Something I'll have to see if I can schedule in at some point. :)

We went to one of their smaller days, it was fantastic. A family member went to Saturday's event and he said it was great - loads of people there. Great for the town!

Any useful links or facebook sites etc to look at for further details?

Been there earlier in the year...not a flying day but still a very good display.

I attended Friday and Saturday and agree that the displays were excellent and the range of past and present military aircraft was excellent. I had a few tears of nostalgia as I worked with a few of these aircraft in the past. I would suggest this is the broadest range of flying aircraft on display at an Australian warbirds display. Get out the diary.
Many thanks are due to David Lowy for his contribution to the Temora museum. Also to the powers in the RAAF for allowing the attendance of their equipment and personnel.

So this happens twice a year? I think I should like to see that. I seem to recall passing through a South Island town in NZ with a similar museum.

There's a small version (3 or 4 warbirds) every couple of weeks, but the big shows are every two years.

I used the wrong word...should be "biennial".

The Wanaka show is apparently worthwhile.. Cheers

Ok. With you now.
Do they have any of the larger ww2 planes ? Bombers etc?

The other pleasant thing about a town like Temora is that for Victorians or Queenslanders, NSW towns have a different architectural style and some worthy public buildings. Plus these wheat belt towns very much need our support if we live by the coast as 85 per cent of Australians do. (Yes, there are some good sized inland cities such as Albury/Wodonga, Wagga Wagga, Shepparton, Mildura, Dubbo, Tamworth, Toowoomba and Armidale to name a selection, but they cannot compete with Sydney's 4.8 million or Melbourne's 4.4 million in population size.)
