Hi everyone!

I have a question regarding Transit accomodation in Sydney, my friends will be arriving in sydney from overseas in a few weeks time around 11am on a weekday.

In the evening (around 6pm) I will be going to meet them and then we will fly to Melbourne together.

So from 11-5pm (6 hours) they would like to sleep and rest up, however from what I can see there are no 'transit' hotels in the airport?

What is the best option in this case, they don't want to stager to far from the airport itself, is there a relatively cheap accomodation option for just 6 hours near to the airport?

THANKS!!

Not aware of any that offer half days but Stamford and holiday inn are close. Depends if they want to pay for a whole days room charge or not? Ie one night.

The Formula 1 will be the cheapest, the mecure more comfortable.

Hi the Ibis used to offer a day use rate. I recall checkout was by 5pm. They have a shuttle from the airport. May be worthwhile checking.

Thanks I'll do some ringing around and see what can be done, as so far seems only able to book night rates on the website.

Otherwise they'll have to settle for Hotel Formulae1 :D

I have used for the short stays and dont want to pay Mecure or Stanford prices for just a bed for 5 hours - usually the last flight into SYD followed by the first flight out the next morning a couple of times in the past. The rooms are nice, its quiet and there is a shuttle to and from, mind you, from INT it would be faster to walk I think.

The site is certainly not flawless but interesting to read the most recent reviews on tripadvisor. Guess it shows there is a wide variety of expectations.

I booked in to the Ibis Sydney from 8 a.m. for five hours for $90 - this was the only one I cld find - it was clean a room was available as booked and served the purpose. It cost $6 per person for the airport bus to the Ibis, and the same to return to the airport.

Alternatively It costs $20 each way to catch the train from the airport in to the city. If you get off the train at circular quay and catch the manly ferry it is a good way to have a look around and a snooze as you can stay on the ferry and return back to circular quay. If you dont want to take your bags, there are storeage lockers available.

I could not find any alternatives to either solution, and as the rain was chucking down was pleased to have booked the Ibis, and arrived at final destination fresh and happy.

cheers.

Why not stay the night and fly to Melbourne the next day. I am sure they would welcome the extra down time before ambarking on a hectic(no doubt) schedule.

If you are an energetic soul, it's possible to walk to/from Wolli Creek Station on a good day in 10-15min from the Int terminal.

Path is sealed safe access all the way, albeit I would not recommend it for those with mobility disorders as there is a minor section where soil/gravel run-off makes the path uneven.

Helps you get exercise, and avoids the airport link ripoff.

Thanks all for your advice!

Ended up getting the ibis for $99 for 5 hours(normally $150+ per night)..

Cheers! :)
