I haven't seen it posted anywhere as yet. The QF Heritage display open to the public in Sydney's T3 is to close and the items moved to the Jetbase museum which is currently not open for public viewing.

So if you are passing through and haven't been there, time to go for a look. I'm not sure when it will close but maybe as early as next month.

The area is going to become a function room.

I always thought that area would be good for a satellite lounge, serving coffee and cake.

Looks interesting from the outside. Tried to enter for a browse 3 times in the last 4-6 weeks when boarding at those gates. No luck. Each time it has been ‘closed for a private function’.

I did check it out a few years ago. About 45 minutes sees it out, even for a plane nerd like me.

Back then at least it was only open weekdays, 9-3pm and even though I was through SYD T3 alot, it was rarely at those times with enough spare time to actually look. In this case I had three hours or so.

I was at the Jetbase today and there was a room cleared for the exhibits from T3 to be moved into.

Oh I'm not doubting it's going to happen, more so QF could spin an 'enhancement' to the collection in T3 as 'a welcome addition to the Jetbase'

Sad for me.
I do go and have a look whenever I have more than an hour, as quite frankly I cannot stand being in a lounge longer than a hour these days.
I like most aspects, from the engines to the cabin crew uniforms.
I love the flight crew items from the early years, looking at the logs for the Sunrise flights seeing 0 or 1 passenger during those war years.

Awww, I really liked the Heritage Collection! The main reason I don't visit it more often is that most of my visits to T3 are either on weekends or after 5pm. This sadly includes my next flights this week which will probably be my last time through SYD in a few months.

I reckon QF should keep it open at least until after the 100th anniversary next year... Or perhaps that's the very reason it's closing?

What could have been, Mascot Jetbase

Are you aware that Qantas started in Queensland (Winton, Brisbane and Longreach) and so had absolutely nothing to do with NSW or Sydney until it was forcibly nationalised in 1947 and artificially had its headquarters transferred to Sydney?

When the Empire Route was started by Qantas (from Brisbane, not Sydney) in 1935, NSW did not have, nor has it ever had, an international airline.

Why the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service should have a "jetbase" in Sydney, a place which has absolutely nothing to do with the airline's heritage escapes me.

But of course the Irishman chooses to live there. I wonder if he's ever been to Brisbane, Longreach or Winton, where Qantas began and grew strong enough to be grabbed by the government.

thanks i am well aware of the history

Like the move from the piston engine to jet, things move on and Qantas is now in Sydney.

Probably all because Sydney is the defacto capital of Australia, and stinky hot remote Queensland is still b*****k-nowhere to most of Australia’s city-dwelling population?

QF has its Jetbase in Sydney because Alan Joyce lives in Sydney?

Yep, it's got nothing to do with the economics of trying to run an airline out of an uninhabitable desert where the only customers are kangaroos (who have an unenviable reputation for paying for stuff on credit cards which bounce AFTER the goods/services have been consumed).
